Area residents can enjoy some fine music in coming weeks when talented artists perform at the Wilson Center Auditorium. The Fall Concert Series is part of continuing fund-raising efforts for renovations at the auditorium that’s located on Cass Street, across from the Clinton County Courthouse in downtown St. Johns.
The Friday evening concerts are set for Oct. 15 and Nov. 5 and 19, starting at 7:30 p.m.; $5 admission at the door.
“These concerts bring live music to our mid-Michigan community at a reasonable price,” says Bill Tennant, series coordinator. “They also give area musicians a chance to perform in this beautiful venue. There’s a nice mix of music within these three programs that I know people will enjoy.”
Tangent, an energetic duo of John Kelly and Dawn Artman, opens the Fall Concert Series at the Oct. 15 show. They perform a wide variety of lively pop, rock, nostalgic oldies and familiar country music. Audiences always enjoy singing along while the duo presents memorable songs by The Everly Brothers, Patsy Cline, Neil Diamond, Sheryl Crow, Roy Orbison, the Eagles and many more.
“Their voices blend seamlessly with rich vocal harmonies, accompanied by John’s skillful guitar playing and Dawn’s delightful keyboard flourishes. Tangent is sure to deliver an unforgettable evening of spirited music and fun,” Tennant says.
A self-described “basement band,” The Regulators headline the Nov. 5 spot in the concert series. The group plays a mix of pop and rock from the ’60s through today – with some folk, country and a few originals thrown in just for fun.
“You’ll hear songs you know, and songs you’ve never heard before,” Tennant says.
The Regulators include Linda Mosher on keyboard and vocals, John McCabe and Thor Strong on guitar and vocals, Carrie Hardigan on drums and vocals, and St. Johns resident Phil Schrantz on bass.
Rounding out the series Nov. 19 is singer and hammer dulcimer player, Ernie Block, along with singer guitar/keyboardist, Kathy Motycka. Block sings a variety of folk, Celtic and popular music, while Motycka’s focus is primarily original Indy Folk.
Funds generated by the concert series will go toward the purchase of a sound system and lighting that are part of Phase 2 of the renovation project. The Wilson Center Auditorium Renovation Committee is also looking for interested people, families or groups to sponsor seats in the beautiful facility.
