Every 35 seconds an American dies of Cardiovascular Disease. This year 1.2 million Americans will have a first, or repeat, coronary attack. 80% of these attacks could be prevented if the victims were educated on heart attack and stroke signs.
The St. Johns High School Student Council is teaming up with the American Heart Association to spread awareness of heart disease in our community. They will be sponsoring the “Tackle Heart Disease” event at the boy’s and girls’ varsity basketball games on Friday, December 17th beginning at 6:00PM. The goal of the event is to spread awareness about heart disease informing the community of stroke and heart attack symptoms.
For a $10 donation, you receive a red t-shirt that reads “Tackle Heart Disease.” We are encouraging everyone to wear these red t-shirts to the games on Friday, December 17th for a “red out.” During the game we will be honoring heart disease survivors and remembering victims. The SJHS Student Council would like to invite all community members to attend.
If you know of someone in our community who has struggled with heart disease and would like to recognize them at the game, please contact Jason Gnegy via email gnegyj@sjredwings.org or by calling 989-227-4163.
