Clinton County Senior Center
While most people think of basketball when they hear “March Madness”, at the Clinton County Senior Center – it just means a little craziness. On Monday, March 17 the Senior Center (located at 201 E Walker Street in St. Johns) will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Corned Beef and Cabbage at lunch ($5) and then they will have a Trivia Contest following from 1-3 pm. Then in the evening from 6:30-8:30 pm they will have a Euchre Tournament will be a wee bit of “Irish Euchre”, a green apparel contest and some great Irish prizes. And since March 16-22 is American Chocolate Week, chocolate will be in abundance at both of the events that day.
Then on Wednesday, March 19 seniors will be able to try their luck at a March Madness Carnival. Seniors are invited to come and try their hand at pitching pennies, throwing the bean bags, doing the cupcake walk and spinning the prize wheel. These and other games and contests will be available for everyone to enjoy. And, of course no carnival would be complete without popcorn and cotton candy.
The carnival events will be held from 12:30 to 3:00 pm at no cost to senior citizens. If you would like to come for lunch at noon (Rosemary Turkey will be served) they would ask that you RSVP by 2:00 pm the day before by calling 989-224-4257. Lunch is available for a suggested $3 donation (the Center will pay $1 towards that fee on the 19th).
The Board of Directors at the Senior Center is excited about the many new events planned for this year, made possible in part because of a grant from the Jackson National Community Fund.
April events include a trip to Soaring Eagle Casino on April 10 and a “Take a Chance Day” on April 23. But these new events are just part of everyday life at the center. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday there is a meal available for a suggested $3 donation. Also on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:30 there is bingo and on Mondays there are Euchre Tournaments (6:30-8:30 pm on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and 1:00-3:00 pm on the 2nd, 4th and any 5th Mondays). Also on the 1st and 3rd Mondays from 1-3 pm there is a Trivia Tournament. And on Mondays there is a public lunch that anyone can come in and enjoy.
The Senior Center is open from 9 am to 3 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and there is no cost to get in. In addition to the planned activities senior citizens are always welcome to come in and get a game of cards going, play board games, work on a puzzle, use the exercise room or just sit and socialize.
The Senior Center, which opened in 1979 continues to receive wonderful financial and in-kind support from the community and the Board of Directors looks forward to serving senior citizens in our community for many years to come.
