Clinton County Senior Center
October will be a very busy month at the Clinton County Senior Center. On Thursday, October 2 they will have a speaker/author talking about her book “A Thousand Letters Home, the Journey of the Letters”. The public is welcome to attend for $3. Lunch, that is included in the program starts at 12:00, with Ms. Teresa Irish speaking at 1:00 pm. Please call the center with any questions or to RSVP.
On Monday of each month the center will hold a fundraising lunch from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Meals in October include Salads (Oct 6); Turkey (Oct 13); Taco’s (Oct 20) and Pork Roast (Oct 27). Each meal is prepared by a volunteer cook crew. The meals are only $5 ($6.50 with homemade pie) and as an alternative to the full meal they have a sandwich available for $3.00. If you would be interested in being a cook once a month or just periodically, please call 989-224-7248and ask for Brenda. They are currently looking for 1-2 people to cook on the 1st Monday of each month.
During the week of October 6-10 the general public is encouraged to stop in and check out their Gift Shop specials. During that week everything in the two gift shops will be 25% off with some items discounted even further. Their shops have everything from homemade quilts, pet blankets, afghans, children’s crayon book holders and more to antique glassware, puzzles, games and more. The gift shops will be open Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. If you would like to donate anything for their crafters (fabric, yarn, craft items, etc) or anything already done for their other shop (glassware, books, puzzles, etc), please drop things off or call them for a pick up. One of the latest items donated to the gift shop was a large assortment of Cook Books.
One of the Senior Center’s biggest fundraisers will be held on Thursday, October 9 when they will hold their annual Rock-a-Thon. This is a day filled with rocking in rocking chairs, playing games, telling stories, enjoying a lunch and most importantly raising money for the center. If you would like information about how to be involved, please give them a call.
To round out the special activities for the month the center will have a Day Trip to Soaring Eagle Casino on Thursday, October 23, they will have a Halloween Party on Oct 31 and they will participate in the Chamber of Commerce’s Event So Good It’s Scary on Fri, Oct 31 where kids can trick-or-treat during the daytime hours of 3:30-5:30 pm.
