Three generations of St. Johns Chiefs of Police: Future Chief Kyle Knight and Former Chief Lyle French were on hand Wednesday to wish Chief Mike Madden well in his retirement.
Chief Mike Madden’s Retirement party
by Maralyn Fink
Camera ready, I’m on assignment to cover the Chief’s party.
I arrived and suddenly felt like I was in a Dragnet episode. I walked the perimeter of the room with well-wishers wanting to honor the Chief. One thing I felt was safe with many police officers around and some from outside our area.
It was a very cheerful crowd all sharing stories to each other about the honoree.
Many expressed their feelings on how the Chief helped this community and especially the kids and were saddened to see him leave.
However, I think they will all be seeing Mike at one time or another.
There were special presentations to the Chief for his accomplishments in his 24 years of service to our community.
There also was a roasting of sorts with emcee Jim Ostrowski. Jim did a fantastic job in this role, and there were many laughs as he told about Mike.
I was able to meet Chief Madden’s wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren some of whom live a distance away.
Visiting will be his top priority as of his last day on Monday when Kyle Knight will take the reigns.
On behalf of the SJIndy, we wish you well and will miss seeing you speeding around town!

PS: The food was great!
