Clinton Northern Railway: You can help get the Sault Ste. Marie ready for display
Clinton Northern Railway, part of the Clinton County Arts Council, volunteers have “been working on the railway” many livelong days. To date, they have successfully restored three historic rail cars, which are on display at the Saint Johns, Michigan Depot. These include a wooden Grand Trunk caboose, a metal crew car, and a wooden RPO (Railroad Post Office) car.
They want to add the Sault Ste Marie to the current display. She is one of few remaining 1902 Barney and Smith wooden sleeper cars. Currently she is housed offsite waiting to become a part of our hands on museum at the Depot.
As you can see, the Marie is in dire need of a makeover. They have volunteers to do the work and have, in fact, begun some restoration work on her, including handmade stained glass windows.
In order to restore her to her former glory, they are seeking donations in the amount of $10,000.00. This money will be used primarily for this purpose as well as continued upkeep on our current railcars.
Your generous tax deductible donations can make this a reality, enhancing the education and preservation of the history of a bygone era. Thank you for supporting the continuing efforts.
