Camera in hand, I headed out to the 22nd annual National Night Out held at the City Park this year.

Everything was well underway when I arrived, and everyone was having a grand time.

The Fire Dept. provided water over the spray park area with a lot of participation by the younger generation.

The St Johns Police Department coordinates this event with the help of Chief Kyle Knight, Bob Wilkie and April Wilson.

There were information booths and plenty of free food for all. Ben Helms and his canine Duke were on hand and had plenty of attention from everyone, young and old. Duke is 5 years old and is the City Narcotics and Training Dog.

This event takes many clubs, manpower and sponsors to make this all happen and from my view, all the hard work paid off in the form of the success they have.

Free hot dogs and drinks were provided by Big Boy Restaurant, McDonald’s and Kroger. Andy T’s served up fresh corn on the cob. The St. Johns Lions Club handed out ice cream sandwiches to keep everyone cool. The popular inflatables and Laser Tag were sponsored by Martin Brower, Journey Federal Credit Union, Olympian Tool, Pauli Ford, RSI Home Improvement, Weichert Realtors, Allaby & Brewbaker Insurance, and The Wheel Inn.

So if you missed this year, be sure and plan on next year. You won’t be sorry.
