Despite a schedule interrupted by a series of pesky rain showers
Despite a schedule interrupted by a series of pesky rain showers, the annual Mint Festival Tennis Tournament, sponsored by St. Johns Kiwanis Club, took place as planned and produced a familiar name among the winners along with a few newcomers.
Josh Gove of St. Johns who has been among the winners in recent years, took honors in the Male 19 and older division with Jim Olin of Okemos the consolation winner.
In the boys 15-18 division, Jared Guy of Saranac topped consolation winner Addision Evon of Ithaca.
Darlene Johnson, Holt, and Russell Freed of East Lansing won the Mixed Doubles. Consolation prize in that division went to Clair and Karen Armbrustmacher of St. Johns.
Kiwanian Chris Bouck chaired the annual event and expressed satisfaction with the results. “We were pleased with the acceptance of the players, considering the weather and construction in the tennis court area,” he said. “Everyone cooperated in making this another successful tournament and we’re already looking to next year’s.”
The tennis tournament is but one of the many community events hosted by Kiwanis.
