When Laurie Bishop, Kiwanian and owner of Locale Media, volunteered use of her St. Johns Locale website as a base of registering to play in the annual St. Johns Kiwanis Mint Festival tennis tournament, committee members responded with enthusiasm. However, little did they realize how quickly responses would begin popping up!
Director Christ Bouck expressed satisfaction by pointing out that early registrations challenge numbers from previous years, setting the pace for another successful tournament. “We’re very pleased,” he said, “knowing that we have aced a contact with so many internet users!”
The annual Mint Festival Tennis Tournament – this year August 9-12 – is conducted in memory of Terry Cornwell, a former Kiwanian and popular High School Counselor and attracts contestants from many areas of Michigan. Competition includes both singles and doubles match-ups over the three day schedule.
Registration fee for singles play is $25.00 per player plus one can of tennis balls if payment is received by July31. Thereafter, if match times can be arranged, the fee is $30.00. A weekend parking pass, covering all three days of competition, is available for $4.00.
Doubles policy is similar, but fees are $35.00 and $40.00 with two cans of tennis balls. Match times for both categories will be available at the web site after Aug. 7 or by calling Director Bouck, 989 224-1921.
Players interested in participating may find full information and registration details by visiting www.stjohnslocale.com/Locale_media/KiwanisTennis.html. Both tournament and fee payment particulars through PayPal are offered.
Registration may be completed at the website. The form may also be completed, printed and mailed with appropriate fee to tournament director, Chris Bouck, 505 E. Higham St., St. Johns, MI 48879. Both doubles partners must each complete an application and pay the designated fee.
