Money Tree planned for supporting non-profits

Imagine for a few minutes that there is a money tree that will provide funds for granting hundreds – and some day thousands – of dollars to qualifying non-profit agencies. The only stipulation is that the funds are to be used for programs and projects to improve and promote the quality of life in the St. Johns area. Better yet, this money tree will give now and into the future as far as the eye can see. In fact with proper kindness and caring, the tree will grow bigger and bigger, producing more money year after year for the benefit of the community.
Great News: the money tree has already started growing thanks to the St. Johns Area Community Fund (SJACF), which was launched in 2009. The SJACF, a field of interest fund of the Capital Region Community Foundation, will be awarding its first grants in 2011. The first grants will be small, but as more people are willing to feed the “tree” the grants will increase.
SJACF is holding its first annual meeting and celebration: “Focus on the Future” on Tuesday, October 26, 5:30 – 7:00 PM at the St. Johns Mint, 200 N. Clinton Avenue. All contributors to the endowment fund and anyone else who would like to find out more about it are invited to attend. None of the funds contributed to the endowment are used for operational costs, including that of this meeting. Sponsors of “Focus on the Future” are Firstbank of St. Johns, Citizen’s Bank and the St. Johns Mint.
All who would like to attend are asked to leave a message for Diane Carlson at 227-9677 or batmom@live.com. For more information about SJACF please go to www.clintoncountychamber.org/sjacf.
