SJHS student is CAUW Student Volunteer of the Year

John Shaver, a senior at St. Johns High School, was honored recently as the Capital Area United Way Student Volunteer of the Year. He was nominated by SJHS teacher, Kari Simon-Pieters, and School Nurse Karla Palmer.
John was recognized at an awards reception in Lansing.
John Shaver is flanked by his grandparents, John and Charlotte Shaver, during the CAUW Student Volunteer of the Year award ceremony.
“John is a young man who sees opportunities to help others and organizes youth and adults to make a difference in the lives of those he interacts with,” Palmer says. “His passion for his projects is evident in his work and he goes beyond the expectations by adding insightful enhancements to all his service challenges.”
Simon-Pieters agrees.
“Congratulations to a very well deserving student- and thank you for all you do to educate our students about giving back to their community.”
