True Love Ways, Computer Problems Solved . . . Kind Of, and the Mystery Photographer
by Barry Bauer
Just you know why
Why you and I
We’ll by and by
Know true love ways
“True Love Ways” was written and recorded by Buddy Holly in the late 1950s and made famous by Peter and Gordon in the mid 1960s.
I think about that song all the time. Not because it reminds me of a redheaded girl from Jackson I once dated but for other reasons. I never imagined that I’d ever date a redhead but she was different. A very pretty and loving girl. For the record . . . she dumped me.
It also reminds me that I knew exactly where I was when two of the most famous people in my lifetime died. Buddy Holly and President Kennedy.
When Holly died in 1959 I didn’t hear about it until I was on a school bus Monday morning heading for Houghton Lake High School and heard it on the radio. I think all of us who were classified in that nasty bad group known as teenagers were stunned. Just like Kennedy’s death, I don’t think we ever got over it.
The pain went deep.
The plane wasn’t even recognizable as a plane, just a mass of metal and the pilot was the only one left strapped inside. The three singers were thrown clear of the plane but suffered numerous fatal injuries so they apparently died on impact. It was just as if the plane nosed-dived into the ground. That crash ended the lives of Buddy Holly, J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and Ritchie Valens and that’s when the music died.
Nobody had to tell us that. These guys were all over the radio.
I think the performer who comes closest to Buddy Holly is Bruce Springsteen. And maybe the front man for Coldplay, Chris Martin. His music is certainly refreshing after being force fed Rap nightly on the late shows. Rap to me is like “chain gang” music and I never cared for it.
Too much grunting and groaning I guess.
I’ve earned my place as a music critic because I have over 700 45 records in wooden boxes in the basement and a whole bunch of CDs and cassettes upstairs. Collecting music for me kind of ended in the 1990s. Gettin’ too old I think.

It seems like no matter what I have for virus protection on my computer, it isn’t good enough. If I could afford to I’d buy a commercial grade computer protection program but even then the jokesters would figure out a way around it. My computer has been slowing down for some time now and I knew there was stuff on it that I didn’t invite. It was kind of slipped into my computer without my permission. Spyware, Malware, and anything else to upset my computer such as painintheassware keeps showing up. The latest is the Win 7 Internet Security 2012 Malware. It completely took over my computer. I couldn’t open my Internet Explorer and within hours I couldn’t open anything. It basically held my computer hostage unless I paid them the minimum of $60 and then they would free it. They also told me my computer was infected by a whole bunch of crap I never heard of.
I hate the arrogance of these people. They’re lucky I’m not the one to sit in judgment of them. They’d go away sore in a certain place and I’d tell them, “That’s once.”
I briefly saw a site that would remove this virus but before I could download it the virus took complete control my computer. Now what was I going to do? No problem, I got my laptop out!
I typed the name of the Malware on the Google search window and got on the first site that mentioned a way to get rid of it. I then downloaded the “fix” on to my mini external hard drive that I can share between my laptop and desktop. I plugged it into my desktop and ran the program and as of this writing, my desktop is back to normal and the speed has greatly improved.
I know it’s a luxury but it pays to have a desktop and a laptop computer. When I get into trouble, one computer can bail the other one out thanks to those good souls on the internet who love to help us with their removal programs to combat viruses.
Now all I have to do is re-install some of my photo software that took a hit during this whole process and I should be back in business.

I found out the name of the young lady who took pictures with that intimidating camera outfit last week of the Santa Parade. She’s presented a photo album of Oakview students to the Indy before but I don’t think I’ve ever met her. Anyway Lisa, you might consider presenting more photos to the Indy. You may put me out of business but then I’m not getting any younger.
Until the next time . . .
