Lawn Managing, The News, and Furthermore
by Barry Bauer
A couple of years ago I decided to do a little “lawn managing” so I grabbed a sprayer containing what I thought was Weed B Gone and proceeded to spray a bunch of Creeping Charlie growing in our backyard that we still have to this day. Well, it turns out I grabbed the sprayer with Roundup in it and I killed a lot of grass along with some of the Creeping Charlie. The Creeping Charlie came back but the grass didn’t.
Bad move, ol’ bauer!
Last year was an off year. It was a dismal year with Betty’s health problems. We didn’t have a garden for the first time in forty-two years except for three lonely cucumber plants that produced a grand total of five cucumbers. Other than mowing the lawn it went without attention.
This year Betty is back to her old self and busy as ever and we’re doing some things in the backyard again. There’s a lot to be done but with me it’s one thing at a time. I hate list. This fall I want to do something with all the bare spots in the lawn so I bought some grass seeds. Not one of those puny five pound bags that cost ten bucks, I got a fifty pound bag for $40! Betty thinks it’s enough grass seed to reseed the whole yard. That may be but I’m going to get some grass growing again. In my way of thinking each bag of grass seed contains 20% grass seed and 80% weed seed so you need a lot of it.
We also have a spot way out back by the fence that was drowned out a few years back when we had a lot of rain and we’ve never reseeded it. It turns into a dust bowl every time Betty mows back there. Hopefully we can make it green again and improve the air quality when mowing.

I haven’t watched the presidential debate that I recorded Wednesday night. I have heard and read a lot of comments both on Facebook and the radio. I’m real interested in what the liberal news media has to say about it. Every time George Stephanopoulos (ABC) comments on a presidential debate he always has the Democrat winning. The trouble with him is he had Al Gore and John Kerry winning their debates but both of them lost to George W. Bush. Did his bias blind the facts before him?
I’ve gotten so I equate CBS, NBC, and ABC news networks to the “hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil monkeys.” They’re just part of a large group of Oblama’s zombies. No matter what Oblama does he can do no wrong.
I’ll bet Richard Nixon is rolling over in his grave. The journalist went after him for Watergate and tore him a new you know what. Well, that was the old days. Today journalist report not what they see but what they want to see. I’m really not interested in their bias opinions, I want the truth and I want to be informed.

And Furthermore:
Have we come this far only to be this bad . . . I don’t think so. I don’t ever want to see again a president like Jimmy Carter coming on national TV and telling us we have to learn to expect less. It seems like we’ve got that same guy in office right now.
We need a strong president who will tell Islamist complaining about our freedom of speech to go straight to Hell!
I know what the MSU Spartan’s football problem is. They have too many players wearing duplicate jersey numbers. One on defense and one on offense. I find that confusing, I’ll bet they do too.
Congratulations to the Detroit Tigers for coming through in the end and to Miguel Cabrera for a great season. We’re lucky to have him.
Until the next time . . .
