The Election, Thanksgiving, and Furthermore
by Barry Blauer
I began this column on Monday, the day before election. I’m not positive about the outcome of the voting right now. I want Romney to win, but I don’t always get what I want. That’s the maddening thing about these national elections.
I’ve listened to a lot of the political analysis who gave their side of the story and whether I liked their message or not I still listened. I am worried about Chris Matthews, “Hard Ball” host. If Oblama loses, somebody has to get poor Chris under a 24-hour suicide watch. I don’t want anything to happen to him because he’s funny to watch. Me, I’ll be all right if Romney loses but I’ll never understand it. I never understood how Oblama got elected in 2008 no matter how old John McCain was at that time.
We’ve been getting all kinds of political Robo calls the last two weeks. Very seldom is a person actually calling, just a recorded message. It brought back memories of an old commercial years ago, “Is it live or is it Memorex?” I hate talking to a machine even those times when I call for support with one of my electronic devices. I simply ask for an agent before the machine even gets started and I keep repeating it until they comply.
By the way, do they register the number of people they call that hang up on them? They should.
Today, Tuesday, I went out and about town taking pictures of people coming and going at the polling places. I ran into a few people I knew and we took a few minutes to talk. I don’t ask them who they voted for; that’s not my business. I’m just into taking photos. I already heard that someone labeled me as a strange man taking their picture and I creeped them out. I guess I can understand that, but it still bothered me.
When I went to bed Romney was leading 19 electoral votes to Oblama’s 3. Later, after a bathroom run, I decided to check on the election. They already projected that Oblama won. That was a mistake on my part! I couldn’t get back to sleep for about an hour. I woke up a couple of hours later and couldn’t get back to sleep so I got up. I went out to the garage, plugged the heater in, lit a cigar, and turned on Red Eye Radio to listen to Eric and Gary. They were in as much disbelief as I was.
Obviously a majority of the voters want to experiment with socialism. I hope for them the best; if I didn’t I’d be shooting myself in the foot. Whatever happens in the next four years the electorate bought it and they own it. Que Sera Sera.

Thanksgiving is only two weeks away. I guess it’s easy to think that it falls on the last Thursday of the month but actually it falls on the fourth Thursday of the month and this year’s November has five Thursdays.
I picked up our turkey the other day but there are lots of other items to pick up in the next two weeks. My youngest brother, Doug, is coming again this year and he always adds to the enjoyment of the day. He refers to me as the N. Oakland St. Bauer and I refer to him as the S. Oakland St. Bauer.

And Furthermore:
Lava soap is too hard; Dial soap is too soft, Irish Spring soap is just right. This message brought to you by the Goldilocks Soap Council.
Why is it that whenever I watch the Detroit Lions on offense almost all the plays end up with their offensive linemen down on the ground?
We’re supposed to have temperatures in the sixties this weekend. It’s not unusual weather. There’s been a number of years when deer hunters after November 15th go out in the field in shirt sleeves.
Neither Romney nor Ryan won their home states. Romney was born in Michigan, has residences in California, New Hampshire, and was governor of Massachusetts. Oblama won all of them plus Paul Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin. Not a good sign.
Until the next time . . .
