What do I think?

by Barry Bauer
I have a theory as to why life goes by faster as we get older. We’ve gone through most of our milestones and that’s turned our lives into a runaway train. Before this, we couldn’t wait for things to happen and that slowed things down.
At first we looked forward to joining our big brother, our big sister, or the neighbor kid in elementary school. Then it was on to junior high and we couldn’t wait because somehow, we’ve gotten bigger, more mature, and almost grown up. It was “look at me” time.
Next up, high school. We were cool now and considered young adults. We looked forward to getting our drivers license, dating, first car, graduating, getting a job, turning 21 so we could buy booze, getting married, and having kids, and having grandkids. All the things we’ve waited so long for. Those years seem to go slow at the time but looking back on it, they went way too fast.
And then we peaked.
Now we’ve entered those so called “twilight years” and with a very few exceptions, we’re not looking forward to all those things anymore. In fact, the choices are limited now. There’s not many “first” left on our list.
And that folks is what greases the slide of life.

The Detroit Lions took a spanking Sunday against the 0-8 Buffalo Bills. I don’t know what else you can call it. Why Drew Stanton didn’t start ahead of our other one-arm quarterback (we have two) is beyond me. What was Stanton, the emergency quarterback? Wasn’t it an emergency? I would have said it was. Call me once in a while coach, I can help you even if you can’t help yourself.
I’m loosing faith in the head coach in a hurry. He seems as lost as the rest of the team. Maybe he can land a job in Dallas; they’re looking for a head coach. Head south young man, head south. It’s obvious Swartz isn’t the answer in Detroit.
I don’t know why offensive coordinator, Scott Linehan, hides his mouth with his play sheet when he’s sending in the plays; they already know what we’re going to do anyway, so quit wasting your time.
As a long time fan of the Detroit Lions I want to file an official complaint with the NFL stating that we’re playing this season under protest – there’s something wrong with us.
After scoring a touchdown and needing a two-point conversion to tie the game, our quarterback threw the ball into a low earth orbit where nobody could catch it!
Hill did it to:
1. Avoid an interception?
2. Avoid a sack?
3. Stop the clock?
4. He thought they got one down for a one-point conversion and two downs for a two-point conversion?
I don’t get it . . . I just don’t get it.

A few thoughts:
A big thank-you goes out to my cable company. They moved the Hallmark channel one channel higher than our older TV sets get. I’m sure that pays off for them somehow – what about the customer?
I’m currently on the 13th president in my lifetime. Is that bad luck?
If you like being “groped” then head for your nearest commercial airport. The TSA agents will be glad to oblige you – they’re kind of strange anyway. Feel free to go through as many times as you want, they won’t mind.
We’re losing it, folks.
It was reported that the California Supreme Court upheld a law that entitles some illegal immigrants, with a high school degree in the state, to lower in-state tuition rates for public colleges and universities. Does that mean U.S. citizens are less important? Do you still wonder why California is going broke?
If they made a Kindle (an e-book reader) for seniors, would it be as big as a blackboard – can you read it now, Gram?
Christian comedian, Brad Stines, has come up with a terminology that best describes what’s happening in the United States right now. He calls it “wussification” which best describes the transformation we’re going through. We’re trying to become “politically correct” so we won’t offend anybody. Quite frankly, some people ought to be offended – and often.
