Dolores Marie Houghton

houghton_doloresDolores Marie (Simmons) Houghton was born December 11, 1937 in Saginaw, MI and passed into heaven on March 21, 2016 in St. Johns, MI.

Parents, Pete and Mary Simmons predeceased her, as well as brothers Kenny and Duane. Dolores is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Larry; her sister, Donna Brown, of Alma, MI; sister-in-law, Joanne Simmons of Wausau, WI; son Larry “Rick” Houghton II (Noel) of St. Johns, MI; son David (Elizabeth) of Simpsonville, SC; daughter Karla Hull of Fenton, MI; grandchildren: Peter of Elkins, WV; Shane of Los Angeles, CA; Christopher of Los Angeles, CA; Alec of Greenville, SC; Craig of Simpsonville, SC; Hannah, Shelby and Cooper Hull of Fenton, MI; and nephews and nieces: Greg, Mitchell and Joe Simmons, Paula (Simmons) Kostuck; Kurt and Kevin Brown and Kimberly (Brown) Solomon.

Dolores was happiest when surrounded by family, nourishing them with both food and memories. She made an unforgettable and wonderful impression on everyone her life touched. Dolores was a dedicated, active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was an ideal Christian wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 11 am at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor John Eich officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 6-8 pm at Lux-Moody-Wolfe Funeral Home, Alma.

LaRue G. Spitler

LaRue G. Spitler, age 90, passed away on March 18, 2016. He was born in Shiawassee County, on July 5, 1925, the son of John and Ruth (Sutton) Spitler. LaRue resided most of his life in St. Johns. He was a member of the Lansing Home Builders Assoc., Fraternal Order of Eagles and retired from Capital Savings and Loan Association. He married Eythel Willett on July 6, 1946 and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2013.

Surviving are their children, Larry (Sandra) Spitler, and Cindy (Steven) Higgins, all of St. Johns, four grandchildren, Marc Higgins, Darrin Higgins, Greg (Danielle) Spitler, Jeff Spitler, half-sister Judy (Brian) McKee and several nieces and nephews. Along with his wife, LaRue was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Mary Spitler and half-brother Max Sutton.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Osgood Funeral Homes, 104 East Cass St, St. Johns, MI. 48879. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm prior to the memorial service.

Doris Maxine Riddle

riddle_dorisDoris Maxine Riddle, age 91, of St. Johns, MI passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, MI on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Brendan Holmquist officiating. Burial will take place at Union Home Cemetery, Greenbush Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Doris was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 14, 1924, the daughter of Jesse and Frances (Severance) Winslow. Doris resided most of her life in St. Johns, MI. She married Donald Riddle on May 29, 1947 in St. Johns. Donald passed away on July 13, 2004. Doris enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She also loved to garden and go to garage sales. Doris was a member of Church of the Nazarene St. Johns, MI

She is survived by her son Richard Riddle of St. Johns, MI, daughter Donna and Keith Harter of St. Johns, MI, grandchildren; Thomas and Kimberly Harter of Perrinton, MI and Stephanie and James Krizan of Owosso, MI, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 7 siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Johns Church of the Nazarene or Grove Bible Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns, Michigan.


Harriet D. Speidel

speidel_harrietHarriet D. Speidel passed away on March 13, 2016 at the age of 91. She was born in Sonoita, Arizona on November 18, 1924, the daughter of Frederick and Isa Jewel (Phillips) Barnett. Harriet married Roy M. Speidel on October 27, 1945 and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1998.

Surviving are her children, Alice (Roger) Moore, Shirley Vallin, Debra (Scott) Davis and Michelle (Dave) Fox, seventeen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, cousin, Vernon Stein and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Bonnie Harper, granddaughter, Sharri Moore, sisters, Alice Turner and Irene Allen and brothers, Fred and Bill Barnett.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler, with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Jeanette Elaine Miller

miller_jeanetteJeanette Elaine Miller of Fowler, MI died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the age of 71. She was born October 11, 1944 in Carson City, MI to Rensselaer and Margaret (Antcliff) Collins. Jeanette and her siblings grew up at the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #3733, where she was President for over 25 years, and served as District President and Historian. Jeanette enjoyed genealogy and was a loving mother and grandmother to many. She loved all things involving her grandchildren. Jeanette married Hugh Miller on December 17, 1966 and he survives her.

Also surviving are their children, Lori Miller, Connie (Jeff) Lowery, Don Miller, Vicki (Jeremy) Schlak; grandchildren, Chelsea (Trent Feldpausch) Miller, Courtney Miller, Preston, Olivia, and Lewis Miller, Karissa, Hudson, and Molly Schlak; sister, Sharon Hope; and many nieces and nephews. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and several in-laws.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. Burial will follow at East Plains Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM both Tuesday and Wednesday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home in Fowler. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #3733 in Jeanette’s name.

Gary L. Martens, Sr.

martens_garyGary L. Martens, Sr. of St. Johns, died March 10, 2016 at the age of 70. He was born November 29, 1945 to Howard J. and Leona (Behrens) Martens. Gary worked as a Tool and Die Maker at General Motors. He was a member of UAW #652, the National Corvette Owners Association, the National Rifle Association, and St. Peter Lutheran Church. On November 6, 1965 Gary married Karen Bashore and she survives him. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015.

Also surviving are their children, Marty (Dian) Martens of Wayland, MI, Mandy (Kevin) Badge of St. Johns, FL, Matt Martens of St. Johns, MI; grandchildren, Trey, Cassidy, KayeLee Martens, Meghan and Ty Badge, Hunter, Logan, and Lexi Martens; great granddaughter, Mia Martens; and brother, Everett (Ellen) Martens. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and great granddaughter, Macy Martens.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. A gathering of friends and family will take place following the service at the church hall. Dorothy Whitford

whiteford_dorothyDorothy Whitford died on March 9, 2016 at age 96, a life well-lived, well-loved, and an inspiration for all who knew her. Dorothy was born to Sam and Barbara (Zehr) Slagell on May 1, 1919 in Gratiot County, MI. She lived in that area for her entire life. Her family had moved from Illinois to Michigan to farm and were one of the founding families of the Bethel Mennonite Church where she participated her whole life. Dorothy was a person of devout faith, who committed each day to living what she believed. Family, friends, neighbors and strangers were always welcomed at her home where they shared in her kindness, good cooking laughter, and music. Dorothy was an excellent musician from her early childhood and throughout her adult life, a love she passed on to her children. Her infectious sense of humor was always present.

Dorothy also loved gardening, canning and freezing the food she produced. Always adventurous, she learned to clog in her 60’s, wrote her life story in her 70’s, and recorded a CD of her music called “Ma’s Homespun Fun” in her 80’s.
She was married to Gene Whitford, her beloved husband for 78 years and he survives her. They both loved farming and its lifestyle. Together they raised four children on their farm.

Dorothy’s surviving children and grandchildren include: son Leslie and his children, Jose, Luanne and Kelly; daughter Barbara Elaine Slagel (Gene) and her children, Faith and Steve; daughter-in-law, Judy Whitford and her children, Marianne, Kristi, Tim and Jeff; and son Eldon (Ann) and his children, Angi, Michelle and Josh. Dorothy and Gene have 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Marilyn, as well as 4 siblings, Earl Slagell, Ralph Slagell, Ollie Slagell and Marie Kindel. Her sister Viola Bontrager and brother Harold Slagell also survive.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns on Friday, March 11, 2016, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church, Ashley, MI on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Steve Slagell officiating. Burial will be at Collier Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.


Maurice Horski

horski_mauriceMaurice (Maury) Horski, 94, died March 4, 2016. He was born to Louis and Mary (Swider) Horski on August 10, 1921, in Locke Township. He grew up in the Owosso area with his siblings Joseph, Edward, Margaret (Sherman), Elizabeth (Figg), and Barbara (Page) who all predeceased him. He graduated from Owosso High School, received a B.S. from MSU, and earned a Masters in Education from Univ. of Minnesota. Maury served as a 1st Lt. in the Army Infantry in WW II. While in the army he met his future wife, Eloda Felber, in La Crosse, WI.

horski_maurice2Together they had four children: David (Millie) Horodynski, Susan (David) Droscha, Sandra, and Jean (Stan) Walker. He spent most of his working life as a high school teacher in Mich. and Minn., his most memorable being in St Johns, MI. Later in life he worked as a pharmaceutical salesman. He also enjoyed spending time and helping out at Riverwood Golf Course in Mt. Pleasant.

Maury is survived by his son and daughters, his good friend Marion Kern, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held 4:00pm Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI; 6:00pm Prayer Services. Paul Edward Droste

droste_paulPaul Edward Droste, age 73, our loving husband, father, and grandfather went home to his Lord on March 3, 2016. Born September 17, 1942 in Fowler, MI. Paul begin his work career at age 9, working in the mint fields in St. Johns, and later at Andy’s IGA. Paul began his 46 year career at M & M Distributing as a truck driver and salesman, then as the warehouse manager, and later became an owner, until his retirement. Paul was an active member of St. Therese Church for 49 years. He enjoyed boating, trips to the casinos, playing cards, and remote controlled boats and cars. Most important to Paul was his family and spending time with his grandkids.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Bernadette M. Droste; daughter, Angela Penner Sevenski; 2 sons, Brian & Paula Droste, and Chris and Marisol Smith; grandchildren Nicole (fiancé, Erik Ragan) Penner, Jared Penner, Anna Sevenski, Bailee Droste, JP Droste, Becket Droste, Braden Smith, and Ava Smith; sisters, Lucille Howard, and Juliane Snater; brothers, Jim Droste, Art Droste, and Richard Droste; many other family members and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Laurina; and sister, Donna Karber and brother, Roy.

Visitation is from 2-4, 6-8 P.M. Sunday with a 7:00 P.M. Vigil Service in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Liturgy is 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 102 Randolph St, Lansing with Fr. John Fain presiding. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 A.m. Monday at St. Therese. Floyd Hayden

hayden_floydFloyd Hayden passed away February 29, 2016 at the age of 72. He was born on August 11, 1943 in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of Harold and Jayne (Faust-Stayner) Hayden. Floyd married Nancy Brown on July 11, 1970 in Royal Oak, Michigan and she survives him.

He is also survived by sons, Jonathan (Candace) Hayden, Matthew Hayden and William R. Gerhardstein; grandchildren, Payne, Lara and Tess Hayden, Sarah and Isaiah Cady; his brothers, Bruce (Chris), Myron (Judith) and Maurice (Jackie) Hayden and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m.on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden Street, St. Johns, Michigan with Fr. Michael Williams presiding.

Richard Duane Tipton, Sr.

tipton_richardRichard Duane Tipton, Sr. passed away on March 2, 2016 at the age of 77. Born on December 21, 1938 in Fowler, MI, the son of John and Margaret (Townsend) Tipton, Sr. He married Judith DeYoung on October 30, 1959 and she survives him.

Also surviving are their children, Kery (Becky) Tipton, Richard (Deborah) Tipton, Jr., Valerie (Dennis) Vallette, Samantha Tipton, Rebecca (Donald) Longstreth, twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, siblings, Gerald Tipton, Margaret “Peg” Caesar, Sharon Halfmann and Linda Tipton. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John Jr. and Robert Tipton.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, burial to follow at Payne Cemetery. Jerry Harold Weaver

weaver_jerryJerry Harold Weaver, age 75, of St. Johns, MI passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI with his family by his side.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 25, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Jerry was born in Ashley, Michigan on October 26, 1940, the son of Harold and Opal (Kerr) Weaver. Jerry resided most of his life in the Ashley and St. Johns areas and was a graduate of Ashley High School Class of 1959. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. Jerry married Beverly Hyde on September 22, 1966 in Ithaca, MI. Jerry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and visiting the Upper Peninsula and Mackinac Island. He was very meticulous with his yard. Jerry was an avid car enthusiast, especially Oldsmobiles. Jerry retired from General Motors where he worked for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Weaver of St. Johns, MI, children; Mark Weaver, Kevin (Richelle) Weaver, Karen (Darren) Bartel, Brian (Patricia) Weaver, Daniel (Shelly) Weaver, 9 grandchildren; Rebecca Chase, McKayla Muscott, Hannah Chase, Kyle Weaver, Ashleigh Harris, Hallie Weaver, Kaleb Weaver, Paige Harris, Reagan Weaver, mother Opal Weaver and sister Shirley Smith. Jerry was preceded in death by his father.

Nellie Frances Dickinson

dickinson_nellieNellie Frances (Valance) Dickinson passed away peacefully at Grace Haven Assisted Living in St. Johns, Michigan on February 22, 2016. Nellie and her twin sister, Dellie, were born on October 23, 1927, to parents Floyd and Lillie (Mikesell) Vallance in Newark Township, MI. Nellie grew up in rural Gratiot County, MI, where she attended Fulton High School and was the editor of the school’s newspaper, The Pirate’s Patch. It was here that she met her high school sweetheart, Homer “Wayne” Dickinson, to whom she would marry on November 17, 1945. They established their home in Middleton and raised two children, Shirley and Duane.

Nellie worked as an assembler at Federal Mogul Corporation in St. Johns for 31 years. In her spare time, Nellie was an active member of the Maple Valley Lions Club and the Middleton United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, and gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (David) McComber of Haines City, FL; son, Duane (Su) Dickinson of St. Johns, MI; grandson, Kenneth (Tammy) McComber of Warren, MI; granddaughter, Amy Dickinson of Holland, MI; granddaughter, Meghann (Ryan) Omo of Parma, MI; great grandchildren, Samantha and Cameron Omo and numerous extended family members. Besides her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; twin sister, Dellie; brother-in-law Wayne Leslie; half-sister Lunetta “Nettie” Lott; half-brothers, Carl Vallance, Earl Jolly, and Leroy Jolly; and nephews Leroy Ayers and Bob Ayers; sister-in-law Reva Jolly; niece Ruth Leis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11 AM at the Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fulton Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pompeii United Methodist Church.


Jeffrey Dean Pearson

Jeffrey Dean Pearson of Laingsburg, died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the age of 54. He was born February 14, 1962 in Lansing, MI the son of Richard and Isabelle (Rolandson) Pearson. Jeff was a graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 1980, earned an associate’s degree through Baker College, and graduated from Michigan State University in 2006 after completing a one-year program for Magnetic Resonance Imaging certification. Jeff was a loving husband, father and a great friend to many. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving is his adoring wife, Amy; three children, Amanda M. Pearson, Kendra C. Pearson (James Young), and Nathan D. Pearson; grandson, Austin Dean; one sister, Nancy (Dave) Gallion; three brothers, Rick (Susie) Pearson, Peary (Linda) Pearson, Rand Pearson, and many nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful son to his parents-in-law, Paul and Kay Toohey.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home with Reverend Tracy Therrien officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 26 and from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday, February 27. George J. Hazle

hazel_georgeGeorge J. Hazle of St. Johns died Monday, February 22, 2016 at the age of 87. He was born September, 3, 1928 in Ovid, MI the son of Wesley R. and Helen (Hoeve) Hazle. He graduated from Fowler High School, (1946) and Michigan State College Agricultural Short Course (1947 & 1948). George was the proud owner of Golden-Knob Holsteins from 1963 to 2013. George also worked for Michigan DHIA as a supervisor and was an AI Technician for MABC. George was active in County and State 4-H dairy programs for 75 years as a member and leader. George was in many dairy and agricultural organizations. He was a member of the National and Michigan Holstein Association. George was a member of MMPA, NorthStar Co-op and Farm Bureau. He served on the Victor Township Board of Review and was a past member of the Clinton County Fair Board. On November 25, 1950 he married Shirley Parker and she preceded him in death in July of 2014.

He was predeceased by his wife, his parents and two sisters, Ruth Milford and Hilda Sheldon.

James A. Dorman

dorman_jamesJames “Jim” A. Dorman, Jr., passed away on February 21, 2016 at the age of 85. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 26, 1930, the son of James and Esther (Wooton) Dorman. Jim was retired from the United States Navy, the State of Michigan and was a member of Society of Broadcast Engineers. He was influential in starting a broadcasting program in Ovid-Elsie area schools. Jim loved country music and had an extensive collection of vintage records.

He is survived by daughter, Christine Ann Des Ormeau of Fruitland Park, Florida, son, Charles James Dorman of Leesburg, Florida, grandson, Jason Charles Jennings of Leesburg, Florida, sister, Phyllis Acre of Elsie, Michigan, brother, Darrel (Marion) Dorman of Junction City, Oregon and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and the mother of his children, Doris Hinson.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, with Dr. Donald Ferris-McCann officiating, burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Conrado Dominguez

domingues_conradConrado Dominguez, 49 of St. Johns, Michigan died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at The Willows of East Lansing after a short bout with cancer. Conrado was born on April 21, 1966 in San Lorenzo, Hildalgo, Mexico the son of Elfego and Yolanda Dominguez. He was a high school graduate and worked in the warehouse at Martin Brower in St. Johns. On December 27, 1991 he married Jennifer Kuenzli in St. Johns. He was an avid runner, bicyclist, enjoyed woodworking and loved attending sporting events that his children were in.

Survivors are his wife, Jennifer, children Conrado F. and Alexander E. Dominguez both at home; mother, Yolanda Dominguez of Mexico, brothers, Ramon of Utah, Alfredo of Mexico, Martin of Oregon and Noe of Indiana; sisters Berenice Lopez of Indiana and Erika of Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father and brothers Pablo and Francisco.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Sunday, February 21, 2016, 1-6 P.M. and on Monday, 9AM until service time. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 12 Noon at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Laingsburg Chapel with Greg Harger and Matthew Jensen officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will be on Tuesday in Rest Haven Memory Gardens in Belding , MI

Jimmy was born on December 18, 1932 in Polkville, Mississippi, the son of Leonard and Cleo (Edwards) Easterling. He attended Junior College in Perkinston, MS, where he earned his Associate in Science. He attended St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, TX where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree on June 1, 1958. On June 1, 1957 he married Marjorie Dalrymple in Greenville, MI. Jimmy served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1954 to 1958. During his time in the Air Force he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. After receiving an honorable discharge Jimmy and his wife moved to Michigan where they raised their family. He attended Michigan State University where he received his Master of Science with a Major in Microbiology and his teaching certificate. He worked for Hurley Medical Center and then became Director of the laboratory at Mott Children’s Health Center in Flint, MI. In later years he worked for private laboratories as the their director. He owned and operated his own water testing laboratory for 24 years. He retired at the age of 65.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 58 1/2 years, Marjorie, five children; Diane, Joann, Irene, Tammy and Steven Easterling, one sister; Kathleen Lambeth, two sisters-in-law, one brother -in-law, cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers; Paul, Maurice, Percy and one sister Imogene. Jimmy loved his Lord and Savior, his family and his work.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Sparrow, Meals on Wheels and Laingsburg Community Singers.


Betty E. Burk

Betty E. Burk, 94 of St. Johns, MI died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Hazel Findlay Country Manor. Betty was born on June 24, 1921 in St. Johns the daughter of John and Ruth (Rathburn) Matice. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1940 and on March 27, 1943 she married Merlin Burk in Eureka, MI. Merlin died on June 28, 2014. Betty was a secretary at Perrin Palmer School in St. Johns, retiring in 1984. She liked spending time at their cottage at Cranberry Lake and winters in Lakeland, Florida where she won many trophies in shuffle board. Betty was a life member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Stars. She was also an excellent cook.

Survivors are her sons, Gary (Ricki) Burk and Tom Burk, both of St. Johns; daughter in law, Olga Burk, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; brother, Ted Matice of Florida and sister Geraldine Woodbury of California and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Larry, 2 brothers, Don and Robert Matice and sisters in law, Lorraine Matice and Pat Matice.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Rodney Kalajainen officiating. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the funeral home, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. An Order of The Eastern Stars service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friday evening. Rev. Erwin L. Behrens

behrens_erwinErwin L. Behrens passed away February 16, 2016 at the age of 81. He was born on September 28, 1934 in Ovid, Michigan, the son of John and Clara (Nolte) Behrens. Erwin married Evelyn June Wilhelm on August 14, 1965 in Flint, Michigan and she preceded him in death in 2005.

He is survived by his children, John of Lansing, MI, Nathan (Bridget) of Westmoreland, TN, Daniel of Lansing, Susan (Jason) Lapham of Wyoming, MI and Andrew of Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Abigail Grace and Kaymin June Behrens, Gavin Lukas and Aubrey June Lapham; brother, Hans Behrens; sisters, Betty and Katherine Behrens and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Erwin was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Behrens and sister, Marianne Mattox.

Along with serving his country in the Army for four years Erwin devoted most of his life to doing God’s work in the ministry. He pastored many different Free Methodist Churches in Northwestern Ohio and Upper and Lower Michigan and even went on serving the Lord after his retirement from the ministry. A devoted husband and father Erwin held many jobs to provide for his family. He was known for his friendly demeanor with people and his passion for Michigan sports, especially football.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 East Oak Street, Ovid, MI with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. hoeve_aliceOn February 11, 2016 Alice M. Hoeve was united in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus and with many friends and family who preceded her. She was born Mildred Alice Pettigrew to the former Gordon and Florence (Doty) Pettigrew. Alice retired from Chrysler Corporation. She loved to garden, knit, and travel; very much enjoyed traveling to far away and close places to visit friends and relatives.

Surviving is her son Darrell (Pamela) Hoeve, grandsons Bryan (Jennifer) Hoeve, Todd (Vickey) Hoeve, Chad (Jenni) Hoeve, Bradly Hoeve, Wayne (Diane) Hoeve, Jamey (Eunice) Hoeve; great grandsons Kyle, Jamison, Kaleb, Jacob, Brady, Caden and great granddaughters Heather, Alexis, Halie and Sydney stepson David (Cindy) Moon, step grandchildren Heidi, Amy and David. Preceding her in death are her husband George Hoeve and son George Lawrence (Larry) Hoeve. She was also preceded by her second husband Harry Moon.

Alice was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend; she will be greatly missed.

Mary Jane married John Ochis on August 29, 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1962. She married Robert Gillson on September 29, 1973 and he preceded her in death on November 19, 1992.

Surviving are four daughters, Mary Lou Gorsline, Lindy and Lester Wilberding, Deb and Bill French, Phyllis “Honey” Ochis and Les Koren; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette “Dick” Durbin, Ellen “Aggie” Pfeuffer, Joan “Kirby” Brunner; brother, Terry “Toby” and Shirley Castner and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, John “Butch” Ochis Jr., daughter, Joyce Knight, granddaughter, Melinda English, great grandson, Drake Hendershot and two sisters, Kay Meyers and Doris Bauman.

Ruth E. M. Dow

Ruth E. M. Dow of Ovid died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the age of 77. Born September 18, 1938 in Northhampton, MA, Ruth was the daughter of Clyde W. and Ruth E. (Marion) Dow. She worked as a Supervisor with the State of Michigan. On January 25, 1957 Ruth married Howard Thurlby in Holt, MI.

Surviving are her sons, Ray and Joe Thurlby; grandson, Mason Dean Thurlby; and sister, Judith (Dennis Cullinan) Dow. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Howard Thurlby.

Bernard J. Feldpausch

feldpausch_bernard2Bernard J. Feldpausch, age 91, passed away on February 11, 2016 at home with his family by his side. He was born in Fowler on March 18, 1924 the son of Raymond and Armella (Pohl) Feldpausch. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a veteran of WWII. In 1964 Bernard founded Bees Chevy and Olds and Bees Sports. He was a Soap Box Derby coordinator and one of the main supporters in creating the St. Johns Little League Assoc. to benefit the youth of Clinton County in 1965. Bernard was a great promoter of Hazel Findlay Country Manor and co-initiated with friends the Transit Bus. He had the best honey and the biggest heart! Bernard was always looking for the person in need. He married Adeline Smith on July 18, 1950 and she survives him.

Also surviving are their children, Dave Feldpausch, Brenda (Ike) Berg, Jean (Mark) Munger, Donna (Korte) St. John, Jeff (Barb) Feldpausch, Amy (Rich) Strach, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lorie Munch and sister, Agatha Epkey.

evitts_lindaLinda J. Evitts of Laingsburg died Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the age of 72. She was born June 1, 1943 in Grayling, MI the daughter of George and Mabel (Eisenhower) Ostling. Linda was an insurance agent for the McPhail Insurance Agency in Laingsburg for over 30 years. She married Larry Evitts in 1960 and he survives her.

Also surviving is a son, Lyle (Kendra) Evitts of Laingsburg; six grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Kile of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, George (Celine) Ostling of Detroit and many nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by a daughter Lisa in 2010.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Laingsburg American Legion Post, 1240 Grand River Rd., Laingsburg. Jacqueline A. Bratton

bratton_jacquelineJacqueline A. Bratton of Flint died Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 84. She was born in Flint October 7, 1931 the daughter of Basil and Geraldine (Cady) Harvey. Jacqueline enjoyed playing bingo and was a waitress, working for several restaurants during her career. She married James Bratton in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2012.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Johnson of Flint, Linda (Mike) Buckley of St. Johns; five grandsons, Rick Moreno, Jeff (Cynthia) Moreno, Chris Moreno, Greg Cripps, Michael Buckley and twelve great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, Pamela Lynn Cripps and Vicky Lee Cockrum; granddaughter, Nicole Boron; grandson James Buckley, son-in-law Russell Johnson; twin sister and brother-in-law, Roseline and Sam Hamilton.

She was born May 19, 1928, in Gonzales, TX, the daughter of Jesus and Julia (Camarillo) Guerrero. Petra was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns. She married Francisco Martinez on May 8, 1948 in St. Johns, MI and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2013.

Surviving Petra are her children, Matilde Guerrero, Julia (Arturo) Rodriguez, Susie Sedell, Beatrice (George) Purvis, María Martinez, Francisco (Mary) Martinez, Jr., Tomas (Lori) Martinez, Elijio (Linda) Martinez, Teresa (Rob) Gagnon, Salvador (Kim) Martinez, Eloisa Nadeau, Victoria (Steve) Lischalk, 36 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, brother, Tomas (Chepa) Guerrero, sisters, Jesusita Guerrero and Beatrice Stubblefield, one brother in law, three sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. Petra was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Guerrero, three children, Herlinda Archer-Groesbeck, Margarita and Remijio Martinez, son-in-law, Flavio Guerrero and sister, Eloisa Espinoza.

Russell D. Hunt

hunt_russellRussell D. Hunt, 1981 retiree from General Motors where he worked in the Experimental Engineering Department, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the age of 86. He was born December 21, 1929 in Owosso, Michigan to K.C. and Beulah Hunt. Russell grew up in Ovid, Michigan as a child. He entered the army and served in the Korean War.

During one of his at-home leaves, he married Beatrice (Beach) Hunt in November of 1951. Together they had 3 children, Larry (Suzanne) Hunt, Amy (John) Cheeney and Danny (Penny) Hunt. They have 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was a very gentle man, a great father and grandfather, loved deeply by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Russ loved the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was very active in First Baptist Church of St. Johns where he served on the Board of Deacons. He also served on the Board of Deacons at Bath Baptist Church and helped establish a small Baptist Church in Fowler and helped build Grove Church in Ovid.

He loved his family and devoted his life to raising his children in a loving home with his wife of 64 years. He loved being outdoors and living on the farm in Sleepy Hollow. He enjoyed a long retirement living in North Carolina seeing God’s creation of waterfalls and the beautiful Smokey Mountains.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 at the First Congregational Church of St. Johns with the Reverend Matt Olson officiating. There will be visitation and luncheon immediately following the service.

Maurice Eugene Witteveen

witteveen_mauriceMaury was born in 1933 at home in Zeeland and raised in Holland, Michigan. He was the third of four boys of Martin O Witteveen and Grace Stam Vandenbrink. His higher education started at Hope College and continued with the Signal Corps of the Army and the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. Later, the Michigan Department of Transportation sent him to Yale University for a Masters degree. Back in Kalamazoo, then St. Johns, work took him to several offices. Rotating among divisions, Maury retired as the head of the Maintenance Division of MDOT in 1991, He moved to Suttons Bay because he loved the Big Lake so much.

Maury’s first marriage (Judy Koning) brought Debra and Lori. In 1961 he married Diantha (Lundin) and raised Peter, Ellen and Sarah. In 2004 he married Elizabeth Stokes. Throughout his life, active social engagement shaped him: in sports, at school and well into retirement, outdoor volunteer work (handyman, Inland Seas school ship, Sharecare jobs, Michigan Ski for Light founding organizer), community boards and committees, and leading or participating in church events and projects.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 6, at 2 p.m. Visitation that day will be at Suttons Bay Congregational Church from 10 a.m. to noon, 218 W. Madison, Suttons Bay.

Maury is survived by daughter Lori Stewart (David), son Guven Peter Witteveen (Lesley); daughters Ellen Teisman (William); Sarah Boynton (David); and grandchildren Joel Stewart (Mindy), Phillip and Ana Witteveen; Ben, Emily, and John Teisman; and Justin, Mason, and Evan Rohrback; brother Gerald Witteveen (Phyllis), sister-in-law Phillis Witteveen, and several cousins. Patricia Ann (Benson) Gomulinski

gomulinski_patriciaPatricia Ann Gomulinski, age 78, of Petersburg, Michigan, passed away January 24, 2016, at her daughter’s home with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of Dr. Robert E. Benson and Elizabeth K. Bancroft. She was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 5, 1938. She grew up in St. Johns and attended Ferris State University. She worked for the Michigan Department of Health Division of Laboratories for 10 years.

She met her husband, Melvin Gomulinski, in Lansing and they were married in 1968. Following her husband’s job relocation, they moved to Petersburg, Michigan in 1972. There they started a family, as well as a Christmas tree farm. The family are members of St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, Toledo, Ohio, where Pat was a choir member. She was also a member of the River Raisin Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid golfer, but most of all she cherished her time with family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Natasza (Dan) Walker and her son, Andrzej (Patty) Gomulinski, her sister Jean (Richard) Weaver as well as grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren, Lindsey, Nolan, Mikayla, Mitchell, Morgan, Madeline, and Mallory and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 29th, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 North Main St., Sylvania, Ohio with a 7:30 pm prayer service. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4718 Brittany Road, Toledo, Ohio.

Lynn Paul Ruestman

ruestman_lynnLynn Paul Ruestman passed away on January 23, 2016, at the age of 56. He was born in St. Johns on July 8, 1959, the son of Delmar and Gladys (Silm) Ruestman. Lynn was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his four children, Lindsay Teems, of Armada, MI, Nicholas Ruestman of Grand Rapids, MI, Megan Ruestman of St. Johns, MI and Alexa Ruestman of East Lansing, MI, two grandsons, Michael and Dustin Teems, mother, Gladys Ruestman of St. Johns, one sister, Evelyn Peterson and a niece and a nephew. Lynn was preceded in death by his father, Delmar Ruestman, brother in law, Gary Peterson and son in law, Mark Teems.

Funeral Services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, with Dr. Brian Salminen officiating, cremation to follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. LaVelda I. Lentz

lentz_belleLaVelda I. Lentz died January 21, 2016. Belle was born in Fort Wayne, IN on February 22, 1928, to Clifford C. and Dorothy (Biggs) Smith. She spent her very early years in Fort Wayne before moving to Churubusco, IN with her parents, two sisters (Joy and Nancy) and one brother (James) where she graduated from Churubusco High School then moved back to Fort Wayne. After high school Belle secured a secretarial position at a Department of Defense war material manufacturer in the Fort Wayne area.

In 1946 the Smith family moved to the Traverse City, MI area where Belle’s dad had secured a new position making eye glass lenses. They rented a house from people who would one day become her in-laws – the Oliver and Mary Lentz family. Soon after, in 1947, Belle met the love of her life, Blaine Lentz. Not long after on September 19, 1948, they were married… and thus began their 67 year romance. Their son Kenneth was born 1949 in Frankfort, MI. Blaine returned to MI State College in September 1950 to continue his college education and shortly thereafter their daughter Cynthia was born at Sparrow Hospital. The family moved to Onaway, MI where Blaine taught, and the following year they moved to Elsie, MI where their second son, Michael, was born in 1960 followed by a daughter, Tonya, in 1963.

Belle took on the role of stay-at-home mom pursuing activities that enhanced the growth of their children as well as herself including flower and vegetable gardening, canning, art classes, crafts, participation and memberships in school and community organizations, and whatever else would keep her busy and involved. She was also an avid golfer and member of the Clinton County Country Club, and the Elsie Lioness Club. Mom was a good artist and very crafty creating many memorable Christmas scenes for all to enjoy.

Belle and Blaine lived in Elsie for 43 years and cherish their memories of the community and all the friendships and acquaintances, both young and old. All four of their children graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School and most remain in this area. In 1998 they moved to St. Johns into a smaller more manageable home and to be closer to their children.

She is survived by sons Kenneth (Donna), Michael (Lauri) and daughters Cynthia (Kim) Brewbaker, and Tonya Myers; Grandchildren Angela (Jamie), Jason (Laree), Kayla, Katelin, Courtney (Gregg), Rick (Cindy), Laurie (Jason), Kati, Logan, Emily; Great-grandchildren Bailey, Brandon, Blane, Scott, Breckin, Brooke, Paige. Belle was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim, and beloved husband Blaine.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns on Monday January 25, 2016 at 3:00P.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home onSunday January 24, 2016, 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns, MI. curtis_arthurArthur O. Curtis Jr. 84 or rural Elsie, MI died at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 21. 2016. Art was born on November 17, 1931 in Fairfield Township the son of Arthur O. Sr. and Ellen (Croxen) Curtis. He graduated from Ovid High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army. On November 11, 1950 he married Lois M. Pixley in Carland, MI. Arthur owned and operated C & D Chevrolet in Elsie for several years. Prior to that he worked for Miller Ford in Owosso, Pierce Motors in Durand, Backus Ford in Owosso and lastly at St. Johns Ford in St. Johns, from here he retired. He loved being at Higgins Lake, and he cherished time with his friends and family, and going deer hunting. He was a life member of American Legion Post 57 in Owosso and life member of St. Johns/Ovid Masonic Lodge. He was active as a youth counselor with the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lois, daughters, Barbara (Michael) Warren of Grand Ledge, MI; and Rhonda Curtis of DeWitt. Granddaughter, Katie (Kyle) Gaffner of Lansing. Great grandson Andrew Gaffner and great granddaughter Samantha Gaffner. Many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Art was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenneth, Harry, Almarion Bacon; sisters Vaudrey Barnard, Marjorie Bradley, son in law, Bill Freund, sister in law Irma (George) Fowler and brother in law Floyd Pixley; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, MI on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Sunday, January 24, 2016, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and Monday 1 hour prior to services. Rick Hawbaker

hawbaker_rickRick Hawbaker passed away on January 20, 2016 at the age of 36. He was born on March 26, 1979 in Waynesboro, PA, the son of Ronald and Carol (Barnhart) Hawbaker. Rick enjoyed farming, N.T.P.A. tractor pulling, Ford Trucks, I.H. tractors, his sheep and chickens, the Dukes of Hazzard, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. Rick was a dedicated volunteer for Clinton County 4-H and a member of the First Church of God. He married Terri Jo Straub on March 31, 2001 and she survives him.

Memorial Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, MI on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. with Pastor John James officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday January 21, 2016 from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. and 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Lawrence was born in St. Johns, Michigan on January 18, 1929, the son of John and Olivia Elizabeth (Wacker) Andrews. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School. Lawrence married Norma Lynn Hoover on August 25, 1949 in Vancouver, WA. He had worked for Carl Geller Electric, Diamond Rio and retired from St. Johns Public Schools as an electrician in 1994. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle and attending antique tractor shows. He loved spending time with his family at Crystal Lake, Lake Margrethe and water skiing. He was a lifelong member of the NRA.

He is survived by his wife Norma Andrews of St. Johns, MI, children; Jim and Diane Margaret Andrews of St. Johns, MI, Janet Lynn and David Nielsen of Fowler, MI, Gene and Juliane Andrews of St. Johns, MI, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 brothers; Richard and Doris Andrews of St. Johns, MI, and Paul and Noreen Andrews of Lansing, MI. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Mary Andrews, great grandson Xander Andrews and brother Clarence Andrews.

Lewis E. Schavey

shavey_lewisLewis E. Schavey passed away January 12, 2016 at the age of 96. He was born June 12, 1919 in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Fred and Edna (Bartlett) Schavey. He married Edith Eisler on July 28, 1944 in Clinton County and she preceded him in death on September 22, 2014.

Lewis is survived by grandchildren, Cole Schavey of Traverse City, Michigan, Raven Schavey of Wolverine, Michigan and Naomi Schavey of Traverse City, Michigan, three great-grandchildren; sister, Mabel Beck as well as many nieces and nephews including but not limited to, Annie, Tom and Roger. In addition to his wife, Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and son, Lee Schavey.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Roy J. Weber

weber_royRoy J. Weber of Maple Rapids, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the age of 65. He was born January 14, 1951 in St. Johns, MI the son of John and Rosalyn (Smith) Weber. Roy loved to hunt and fish, was a member of the Fowler Conservation Club and worked for Mathews Elevator Co. in Fowler for 40 years.

Surviving are two sisters, Ruth (Kirk) Brock of St. Johns and Rosemary (Ernie) Myers of Fowler; two brothers, Ronald (Winona) Weber of Owosso and Paul (Shirley) Weber of Fowler; sister-in-law, Lorraine Weber of Fowler; special godchild, Traci (Brock) Szczechowski of St. Charles, IL and many nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerome.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery Chapel, Fowler with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Richard Eugene Sovereign

sovereign_richardRichard Eugene “Dick” Sovereign of Dunnellon, Florida, formerly of St. Johns, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at the age of 85, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 24, 1930 in Boone, Iowa the son of George and Chloris Sovereign. Dick graduated from Boone High School in 1948. He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952. He was a technician for MABC in Tuscola Co., Genesee Co. and Clinton County for 22 yrs. He worked for MMPA of Ovid, was a farmer and retired as a supervisor for Howmet Corporation of Plymouth, MI.

He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church of Ocala, Florida and a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of St. Johns. Dick loved the outdoors, hunting, gardening and crossword puzzles. Dick was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking big meals for his family and friends. His most famous and delicious meals were leg of lamb, ribs and sauerkraut and chicken noodle soup. Dick was very proud of his family and loved spending time with them. He had a huge heart, never complained and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Betsy. His seven children: Rick (Sharon) Sovereign, Annette (David) Young, Mary (Mark) Mercer, Renee (Greg) Lewis, Tim Sovereign, Rhonda (Scott) Chamberlain and Tom (Julie) Sovereign. Eleven grandchildren: Tonya (Richmond) Davis, Benji (Amy) Sovereign, April (Sean) Nobach, Marc Mercer, Kathy (Andrew) Rademacher, Heather (Steve) Thalison, Danny Lewis and fiancé Amber Pung, Emily & Anthony Chamberlain and Tommy & Gracie Sovereign. Ten great-grandchildren: Lucas, Jake, Carolina Davis. Eli, Ethan, Ariel Sovereign. Bailey, Logan, Chloe Nobach and Owen Thalison. Dick is also survived by two brothers George (Pat) Sovereign, Larry (Wonda) Sovereign, as well as his sister Sue Brogdon of California. He also is survived by several nieces, nephews, friends and his second family the Kreiners. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, first wife Kathryn Sovereign, sister Rose Rozga, Frank Rozga, Tom Brogdon and several members of the Kreiner family.

A Funeral Mass was held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church of Ocala, Florida. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements made by Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River, Florida.
