Santa’s coming to your neighborhood

Santa will be driving through the city of St. Johns over the next few weeks.

Please keep in mind all are subject to weather and time. If weather causes a route cancellation, we will reschedule. We will be posting a few days at a time.

Parents/children, please stay on the side and off the road. There will be helpers if your child would like to give a letter to Santa. Organizers want to make sure everyone can enjoy seeing Santa, and they don’t want anyone in middle of the Street.

Please be kind and patient because this is the first time doing something like this in town. They will no doubt adapt and make changes as they proceed. Safety will always be the first priority.

Listed are two days of initial estimated times and route info for Santa.

Saturday December 12 Route: Santa will start around 4:30-5:00 See Map

Sunday December 13 Route
: Santa will start around 4:30-5:00 See Map

Follow the St. John Festival of Lights website for routes and time changes.

COVID-19 quarantine guidance updated

Mid-Michigan District Health Department is changing its COVID-19 quarantine guidelines to align with those made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on December 2, 2020.

The previous 14-day quarantine period was based on earlier data that estimated the COVID-19 incubation period. However, recent data found 90 to 99 percent of COVID-19 infections occur within 10 days of exposure.

While the 14-day quarantine period for those who have been exposed to COVID-19 is still standard, it can be reduced to 10 days if the following two conditions are met:

?The individual does not develop any symptoms or clinical evidence of COVID -19 infection during the 10 days after their last exposure.
?The individual continues to monitor for symptoms for 14 days after their last exposure. If symptoms develop, they should get tested and self-isolate while waiting for their results. Testing locations can be found at www.michigan.gov/coronavirustest or by calling 211. If you test positive for COVID-19 you should follow home isolation guidelines. If you test negative, you still need to complete the 14-day quarantine.

Individuals exiting quarantine should continue to social distance, wear a mask, and avoid crowds.

The shortened quarantine period should be considered with caution for those living or working in congregate living settings or those working with high-risk individuals due to the increased risk of transmission with the shortened quarantine. Refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for information regarding these risks. There may be conflicts in the length of quarantine for employers who fall under Michigan Public Act 238 or Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules. Employers should refer to these sources when determining whether employees need to wait 14 days to return to work.

LuAnn Spitzley recently lost her life due to COVID. Her loved ones say, “LuAnn left us too soon… She especially loved to spoil the children around her. LuAnn said no child of mine will go without!”

To honor her spirit a Toys for Tots drive was held over the weekend. Toys for Tots is blessed to share LuAnn’s spirit. Thank you to all who donated to this drive.

New brewery open for take out
by Maralyn Fink

On Tuesday I visited the St. Johns Brewery located on Clinton Avenue .

I met the Manager, Joe Herman, who showed me around the new establishment.

They opened on December first of this year.

They serve different flavors of brew and also serve take out food from a great menu.

It was fun seeing the two bank vaults on display, and I remember going there when it was Clinton National Bank. Before that it was the St. Johns National Bank. There are a lot of memories in that building.

The Blood Drive at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Tuesday had a very good turn out, collecting a total of 80 pints of blood.

Thanks to all the donors and volunteers who made this possible, and they hope to see you February 1, 2021.

A special thanks to Jane Sira for the organization of volunteers and providing the food for the canteen.
