Chalk It Up coming to town September 11

 

The Chalk Artist Competition will be held in downtown St. Johns on Saturday, September 11 from 2 – 5 p.m.

1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Artist Prizes and a Judges Choice Prize will be awarded.

Judging and voting will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Ballots will be at the Art & Soul Gallery. There will be extended downtown store hours and much much more.

Meals and Activities back at the Clinton County Senior Center

Beginning Monday, August 23 the Clinton County Senior Center will be fully open with meals and daily activities on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

On Mondays the general public is invited to come for a home cooked meal. This fundraising meal is made by volunteers and is available for $6, $8 with homemade pie, or $4 for a sandwich and chips. On the 23 they will serve Meatballs, Potatoes, Corn and Butterscotch Pudding. Tuna sandwiches will be available.

On Monday, August 30 a variety of salads will be available such as taco, potato, German potato and tuna. A total of 8-9 salads will be made and each person selects 5 different salad servings.

Monday meals are served between 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Take outs are also available by calling 989-224-4257 that morning. After the meal from 1-3 p.m. a Euchre Tournament will be held each Monday. The cost to participate will be $2 per person. The tournament will start promptly at 1:00.

On Tuesdays and Fridays meals with be available for senior citizens for a $3.50 donation. These meals will be served at Noon. Bingo will follow at 12:30, and will cost $1.50 per person. Each person is guaranteed to win four prizes.

The Center will open at 9:00 a.m. each of these days and will close at 3:00 p.m. Seniors are welcome to come in during these hours to play other games, work on puzzles or just to socialize.

Individuals fully vaccinated will not be required to wear a face mask. Those individuals that have not been vaccinated will need to wear a face mask, except while they are eating.

RBW Class of 1960 to meet August 26, 27

 

The class of 1960 from Rodney B. Wilson High School will be having their 61st reunion, due to the cancellation of the 60th reunion for Class of 1960 last year, on August 26 and 27.

The classmates will be gathering at the Main Street Cafe for lunch at 1:30 PM on the 26. Cost is $15 which includes tax and gratuity.

On August 27 they will be joining the Class of 1959 at Motz Park for an all-day picnic and get together.

So fa 43 signed up for the lunch and 40 for the picnic.

Free meals every Tuesday

 

His Cup Runneth Over, a free meal ministry, will be doing free meals every Tuesday starting Tuesday.

Free meals will be given out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave., St. Johns. They will be located in the back southwest corner of the parking lot.

Everyone is welcome to come, and it is free for all who come. For those unable to pick up lunch, please call to arrange for delivery by Monday.

RBW Class of 1964 to meet August 29

The Rodney B. Wilson High School Class of 1964 will hold their Annual Potluck Picnic on Sunday August 29, 2021.

They also welcome the Class Members of 1965 and 1963 to join them.

Please plan to arrive at the St. Johns City Park Main Pavilion between 12:00 and 12:30 and eat at 1:00p.m.

Brainfuse, an online tutoring and learning resource – Need live homework help? Writing a paper? Preparing for a test? Going back to school? Want to brush up on academic skills? Brainfuse offers a wide range of helpful services that are now free to our patrons! Their tutors are trained to help users master a problem’s underlying academic concepts. Live tutoring and homework help services are also offered in Spanish for all subjects offered in English. Go to our website’s homepage and click on the Brainfuse button to learn more.

Kanopy is a video streaming service for quality, thoughtful entertainment. Find movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films and educational videos that inspire, enrich and entertain. Briggs District Library patrons can enjoy an ad-free experience on their TV, mobile phones, tablets and online. Play credits are used to play videos on Kanopy. Patrons will receive 3 play credits per month through the Library. Each video will use 1 play credit each with the exception of those in Kanopy Kids. Once you press play on a video and a play credit has been used, you will have 3 days to view it as many times as you like without using another play credit. Your play credits will reset back to 3 on the 1st day of each month. Go to the library’s website homepage and click on the Kanopy button to try out this new service.

VOX Books– VOX Books allow children to listen to a story without the extra equipment. No computers or CDs required. Children simply push a button to listen and read. The library has a collection of 16 VOX books for checkout. Both English and Spanish versions are available. Checkout is limited to one per family and the circulation period is 3 weeks.

Literacy Backpacks– The library has a collection of themed literacy backpacks for checkout. The purpose of these backpacks is to encourage reading enjoyment and family engagement. Each backpack contains at least 4 books and 1 activity based on a particular theme. The different backpacks are geared toward different aged children. Checkout is limited to one per family and the circulation period is 3 weeks.
