Brenda Marie Terpening
Brenda Marie Terpening, age 63 of St. Johns, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the service.
Brenda was born September 24, 1958, the daughter of Ramon and Darlene (Jastram) Terpening. She graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1976. After high school, she worked in Texas for the American College of Emergency Physicians. She moved back home in 1988 where she worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters until 1996. She ended her career as the Clinton County Chamber Director, having worked there for 25 years. Brenda retired in December, 2021.
Brenda was always volunteering. She was involved with Jaycees and Kiwanis. She helped work and plan the Fantasy Forest at the city park and served as Chairperson for the St. Johns Mint Festival. Brenda also put in countless hours at the Clinton County Senior Center, planning Monday lunches, parties and sewing crafts for them. She also enjoyed playing Euchre.
Brenda is survived by her mother, Darlene; sisters, Karen Terpening, and Cindy (Skip) Schmitz; brother, Mike (Tammy) Terpening; 4 nieces, 3 nephews, 15 great-nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her father, Ramon Terpening.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Clinton County Senior Center.
James Michael Smith
James Michael Smith, age 66, passed away peacefully with his family by his side following a courageous battle with COVID-19 on Tuesday night, April 5, 2022 at McLaren Bay Region. He was born on April 2, 1956 in St. Johns, MI. Jim graduated from St. Johns High School and Ferris State University. He worked at Cummins, Inc. in Saginaw as a diesel mechanic for 43 years, just retiring on January 3, 2022. Jim enjoyed woodworking, playing golf and relaxing with a Busch Light.
On March 16, 1985 Jim was united in marriage to the former Patrice K. Rose, and she survives his passing along with his mother, Althea (Stephens) Smith of St. Johns; his sister, Mary (Pete) Donald of St. Johns; a brother, Steve (Tammy) Smith of Nevada; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick (Lynne) Rose of Bay City, Barb Vandenbelt (Dr. Mark Komorowski) of Essexville, Diane Rose of Egg Harbor, NJ and Dr. William Vandenbelt of Bay City; his nieces and nephews, Allison Bancroft, Aaron Donald, Bryce Vandenbelt, Braeden Vandenbelt, Scott Rose, Jake Rose (Courtney); and his buddy, Petey. Jim was preceded in death by his father, William Smith; and two brothers-in-law, David Rose and Bill Rose.
It was Jim’s desire for cremation to take place. A private ceremony will be held for the family. Funeral home arrangements are being provided by the Trahan Funeral Chapel.
Louise Marie Ide
Louise Marie Ide, a resident of DeWitt, and native of St. Johns, Michigan, died on April 3, 2022 at the age of 55.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Shellito; her son, Tom Shellito (Jessica Cooper); her daughter, Elizabeth Shellito (Ryan Stine); grandchildren, Tatum, Vanna, Annalise, Sky, and two on the way; foster mom, Treila Friar; sisters, Brenda, Roberta, Terriann and Mary, and many extended family members and dear friends.
Following graduation from Haslett High School Louise obtained her nursing degree. She loved being a nurse, and over the years served with Sparrow Hospital, Hazel Findlay Country Manor in St. Johns, and as a hospice nurse. She loved trips to Mackinac Island and every opportunity to spend time with her kids and grandkids.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, Keck-Coleman Chapel, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, on Wednesday, April 6, from 5-8 PM.
