Concerts in the Park kick off 19th Season
The popular summer Concert in the Park series, sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the City of St. Johns, will open its season on Wednesday, June 15 this year with an incredible Bluegrass Band out of Ann Arbor. The series will include 12 concerts this summer, for the first time in 2 years, ending the season on August 31 with a concert featuring the King himself, Elvis! In between will be a nice variety of performances featuring excellent musicians from throughout Michigan.
“We receive a lot of requests from performers each year wanting to come to St. Johns to perform,” says Bill Tennant, concert coordinator. “This year the committee decided to invite 4 outstanding new groups to join the lineup – inviting 3 groups back from last year – along with 5 groups who have performed previously on our series. Our patrons can be assured that every Wednesday evening throughout the summer they will be able to hear an excellent performance here in St. Johns!”
The series will be held at the William E. Tennant Performance Shell in the beautiful St. Johns City Park. All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. rain or shine. The Lions Club food trailer will be available this year. Social distancing and safety precautions are encouraged. The CCAC receives funding from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

St. Johns physician recognized

Victim Support Team looking for volunteers
The Clinton County Sheriff is looking for volunteers to join the Victim Support Team. If you are 21 years or older, live in Clinton County and are wanting a rewarding volunteer opportunity, please check them out.
What is the Victim Support Team?
The Victim Support Team (VST) is a group of trained volunteers, working under direction from the Sheriff’s Office, that help victims, survivors, families, friends or any other persons affected by a crime or other traumatic event.
The VST allows Emergency Personnel to do their job without leaving victims forgotten, avoiding further victimization.
What is the purpose of the VST?
The VST is designed to:
1) Comfort and help victims and make referrals to appropriate agencies and services of the area according to needs.
2) Serve as a go-between for victims, their families, and scene officials and emergency service providers.
3) Aid and educate victims as to their rights, the Victim Compensation Board, and the judicial system.
How does it work?
Victim Support Team members are called out to scenes or other locations by Sheriff’s Office personnel.
Once on scene, team members talk to victims to establish their needs. If it is a crime scene, separating victims from the scene may be necessary for investigative purposes, yet maintaining a link between investigating officers and victims can be crucial.
In the event of a death team members can serve as contact persons and go-betweens for funeral services, law enforcement, medical personnel, and clergy.
Team members help victims of a crime understand the judicial and law enforcement system and what to expect next. Members can refer victims to various support agencies and assist in filling out forms or claims.
The Victim Support Team was founded in 1993 to fill the vital role of lending support to those in need during and after a traumatic incident. The team responds to crime scenes, traffic crash scenes, hospitals, funeral homes, and any other scene where their advocacy can help those involved.
All of this is done with no compensation. The team is supported by the incredible generosity of organizations, businesses, and individuals within Clinton County.
Members meet on a monthly basis and are supported by a Liaison Officer from the Sheriffs’ Office to help address training needs, operational needs, and any other issues that may arise.

Museum featuring 10 County residents from the past
This year the Clinton County Historical Museum is featuring 10 Clinton County residents from the past 160 years who have made news headlines in some way throughout their lives. It is exciting to share their stories and accomplishments.
There is a pioneer in air flight pioneer who made history 7 times, an advertising giant who has his own skyscraper in Chicago and an outspoken Victorian Era woman who became well known throughout the United States and Europe for her books and lectures regarding government and women’s rights. The exhibit provides a sample of some interesting people who were born here and/or went to school in this county.
Renovations have been completed on the second floor, so those rooms are now open along with the recently redone first floor parlors, dining room and bedroom. There are kitchens from the 1800’s and mid century 1950s and a great display and sampling of women’s clothing from the 1860s-1920s. There is also a doctor’s office as it might have been a century ago. And of course Calendar Hall features a newspaper history of Clinton County.
The Museum is open Sundays from 1 to 4 and Wednesdays 2 to 6 through summer and autumn except for Holiday weekends. Check it out at 106 Maple, St. Johns, MI 48879 West of the Courthouse Square. SafeCenter Scramble Golf Outing scheduled for Saturday, June 11
SafeCenter Domestic and Sexual Violence Services of Clinton and Shiawassee Counties will be hosting their first annual “SafeCenter Scramble” Golf Outing next Saturday, June 11, 2022 beginning at 9:00 am at Corunna Hills Golf Course. All proceeds from the event will benefit programs and services provided to child and adult victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence served by the agency in both counties.

Arts Council offers Outdoor Sketching Classes June 15 and 16
Join Andrea Czarnik for her Outdoor Sketching classes. Outdoor or plein air sketching gives the artist the opportunity of seeing their subject from different and more creative angles than would be provided through reference photos. These classes will be a total of 4 hours, split over two days in 2 hour classes, at Andy T’s Farm Market, where there are plenty of options for creative objects to draw and unique perspectives. The classes will be held on June 15 and 16 from 1-3 p.m.
A few supplies are needed for this class include: Canson Mixed Media Sketchbook, 12 watercolor pencil set, an ink pen, sharpener and eraser. Also bring a lawn chair, water bottle and other necessities like sunscreen and an umbrella.
The cost for this class is $50 total. The maximum number of people for this class is 8, so sign up soon before they are gone. Students will need to come the gallery to pay for this class before meeting
