Jerome Alphonse Schueller
Jerome Alphonse “Jerry” Schueller, age 87, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor, St. Johns, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, MI, at 11:00 A.M, on Monday, October 3, 2022, with Rev. Fr. Anthony Brooks presiding. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes- Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI. A vigil and rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Jerome was born in Westphalia, Michigan on August 15, 1935, the son of Albert and Irene (Thelen) Schueller.
Jerry was a lifelong farmer working with Livingston Farms for 50 years, milking cows. He liked hunting with his sons in his younger years to provide for his family, he also enjoyed dancing and socializing. He took pride in maintaining and mowing his lawn. He enjoyed going to breakfast on Sunday mornings with his son Bob and other family members. Jerry loved watching wildlife and birds from his deck. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and having his children and grandchildren in and out of his home visiting. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns.
He is survived by his children: Joseph Schueller of Belding, MI; Robert and Tamara Schueller of Eureka, MI; Ronald and Alice Schueller of St. Johns, MI; Jeffery Schueller of Bradenton, FL; Treena and Kelly Ladisky of St. Johns, MI; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; sister Therese Fox of Ionia, MI; and brother Gary and Rose Schueller of Fowler, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children Thelma (Haudenschield) Schueller, infant son David Schueller, son Jerome R. Schueller, granddaughter Jennifer Schueller, great-granddaughter Alexis Schueller, siblings: Marietta VanEtten, Geraldine Geller, Joe Schueller, Ambrose Schueller, Rita Skriba, Richard Schueller, Sr. Rosaline Schueller, infant sister Josetta, infant brother Ronald.

Stanley A. Lutz
Stanley A. Lutz, age 89, of St. Johns, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Payne Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Stanley was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 11, 1933, the son of Richard and Olive (Shepherd) Lutz. He met Bonnie Jean Payne 71 years ago at Fulton Center Methodist Church. They were married on February 19, 1954 in Drayton Plains, MI. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage together, prior to her passing on July 15, 2021.
Stan was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and on the Deacon Board. He retired after 30 years as a Detective Sergeant with the Michigan State Police, and then worked for 12 years as a Chief Investigator of the Genesee Auto Theft Investigation Network in Genesee County. After his second retirement, he was a driver for Clinton Area Transit “Blue Bus” for several years. He served on the Board of Directors of several professional organizations including HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Theft), ACT (Michigan Anti-Car Theft Campaign), International Association of Auto Theft Investigators, and the Michigan State Police Association. He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force during, and after, the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his children: Mark (Patricia) Lutz of St. Johns, MI; Marci (Lee) Walker of Crestwood, KY; Pamela (Kenneth) Scobell of Valley Mills, TX; and Jeana (Ray) Snyder of Laingsburg, MI; six grandchildren: Meghann (Jeremy) Courliss, Nathaniel Lutz, David (Nicole) Walker, Mandi Walker, Will Snyder, and Luke Snyder and six great-grandchildren: Samuel and Jonathan Courliss, Tristan and Zoe Walker, and Libby and Wren Lutz and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie, brother Donald Lutz and sister-in-law Jean Lutz.

DeLoris Jean Harger
DeLoris Jean Harger, age 89, of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, Michigan at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2022, with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
DeLoris was born in Vernon, Michigan on April 15, 1933, the daughter of Howard Lee William and Gladys Alberta (Crossett) Wilber. She graduated from Ovid High School class of 1951. On June 14, 1951 she married Roy Sylvester Harger in Ovid, Michigan. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage prior to his passing on August 27, 2020. DeLoris enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, and going to the casino.
She is survived by her four children: Mona and Marlin Kindel of Maple Rapids, Michigan; David and Nancy Harger of Ithaca, Michigan; Keith Harger and Kathy Culpepper of St. Johns, Michigan; Trina and Richard Fitzsimmons of Ottawa, Canada. She is also survived by six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Jennielee Bowen of Kendellville, Indiana; and Mary Byrd of Webberville, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy Harger, grandson Chad Harger, brothers and sister-in-law: George and Donna Wilber and Robert & Dorothy Wilber, one sister Ruth Malato, brother-in-law John Whyte, two nephews: Bruce Bowen and Robert Wilber, and one niece Anna Shea-Nethaway.

Michael Lyle Goodknecht
Michael Lyle “Mike” Goodknecht, age 69, of Fowler, MI, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at his home.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be announced as soon as possible.
Michael was born in St. Johns, MI, on September 10, 1953, the son of Bernard and Helen (Conklin) Goodknecht. He graduated from Fowler High School with the class of 1971. Mike married Connie Crawford on February 29, 1992 in Mason, MI.
Mike worked as a mechanic for his own business and with Bee’s Sports and Becks Trailer Sales for many years. He retired in 2013 and went to work on the family farm. Mike was always busy doing something or tinkering in his building.
Mike loved baseball and played for the Gratiot County Baseball League for 30 years. He was inducted into the Gratiot County Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2015. He loved hunting with his sons and grandsons and snowmobiling & UTV riding with his wife and best friends.
He is survived by his wife Connie Goodknecht of Fowler, MI; sons: Joshua and Angie Goodknecht of Bath, MI; Christopher “Cricket” and Marcy Goodknecht of St. Johns, MI; stepson Aaron and April Scott of Mason, MI; stepdaughter Sara and Mark Anderson of Alma, MI; stepson Braden Scott of Mulliken, MI; and twelve grandchildren; father Bernard Goodknecht of Fowler, MI; siblings: Diane and Gerry Freed of Ovid, MI; Debbie Chaffee and Ken Winn of Warren, MI; and mother-in-law Lorna Crawford of Carson City, MI. He was preceded in death by his mother, granddaughter Dilynn Goodknecht, father-in-law George Crawford, and brother-in-law Link Crawford.
