Veterans Day parade begins at 10:30 Friday morning
To honor and remember all who have served, there will be a Veteran’s Day Parade on Friday, November 11. At 11 a.m. a special service will be held at the Veterans Memorial on North Clinton Avenue.
Parade participants will line up at the Wilson Center parking lot by 10:00 a.m. Beginning at 10:30 the parade will proceed from the Wilson Center north to Cass Street, turn left onto Cass Street, turn right onto Maple, then proceed north down Clinton Avenue to the Veteran’s Memorial.
After the parade there will be a meal at the American Legion Hall on E. Walker.
Flags are scheduled to go up at Mt. Rest Cemetery at 8 a.m. and come down again at 4 p.m.
Veterans ride Free on Clinton Transit Buses
Every day Clinton Transit is honored to serve military veterans and their families. Now those who served our country can ride the agency’s iconic Blue Buses fare-free. The on-demand, curb-to-curb service gives Clinton County veterans a new, convenient and free transportation option.
“We wanted a way to both honor and support military veterans throughout the community,” says MaLissa Schutt, Clinton Transit’s Executive Director. “For many veterans, transportation is a major barrier to accessing education, medical care, employment and other important places. Wherever they’re heading, we want our veterans to know we’d be honored to give them a ride.”
“It is absolutely the right thing to do,” says Schutt, adding, “Addressing mobility needs is always good business and the returns include a thriving and more connected community. We’re fortunate to have the support of our partners, including American Legion Post 153 in St. Johns, to help make this happen.”
Veterans will need to register in advance of their first ride by calling the dispatch office at 989.224.8127, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It may take up to one business day for new accounts to be reviewed and processed.
Once registered, riders can simply call the dispatch office or schedule their rides on the Clinton Transit mobile app. As an added option, Clinton Transit offers walk-on service at popular locations in the St. Johns, Bath and DeWitt areas from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Friday based on route availability and on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-on rides are also free of charge for veterans.
Clinton Transit’s standard transportation hours are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the dispatch office is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For mobility needs beyond published hours, residents are encouraged to call Clinton Transit. “We have staff working to ensure everyone’s mobility needs are met through coordination and collaboration with other transportation providers,” says Schutt.
Established in 2001, Clinton Transit has been providing curb-to-curb service to meet the needs of all Clinton County residents. Fondly known as the Blue Bus, the on-demand transit system responds to ride requests and provides safe, reliable transportation to all county residents. Annual Remembrance Tree Lighting Ceremony is Wednesday, November 16
Sparrow Clinton Hospital will hold its annual Remembrance Tree Lighting Ceremony next Wednesday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m.
The community is invited to come together for quiet time of reflection and remembrance honoring the memory of their loved ones who have passed away. Each light on the tree represents the life of someone who received compassionate care at Sparrow Clinton.
The special tree lighting ceremony will be held in Sparrow Clinton’s North parking lot, corner of Sturgis and Oakland streets.

Elsie teen dies after crash with semi
A 19-year-old man died after his car collided with a tractor-trailer early Friday morning.
Clinton County Sheriff’s deputies and St. Johns Police officers responded to the crash shortly after 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at the intersection of M-21 and Krepps Rd. in Bingham Township, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
A 2017 Volkswagen Passat driven by 19-year-old Clay Wenzlick, from Elsie, was traveling south on Krepps. At the intersection with M-21, Wenzlick’s vehicle was hit by a westbound tractor-trailer driven by a 61-year-old man from Birch Run.
Wenzlick was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said.
Speed and alcohol were determined to not be factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Clinton County crash reconstruction team.
