Arlo Lyla Perrino Stollsteimer
Arlo Lyla Perrino Stollsteimer, passed away peacefully in the arms of her parents on April 19, 2023 after a brave and courageous journey with a rare neuro-degenerative disease at Sparrow Hospital. She was just 2 years old. She has touched the hearts of many, and her impact will be everlasting. Arlo was born March 22, 2021. She bravely endured what no child should have to, and she is finally free of her body.
Arlo is survived by her Mama, Cortney Stollsteimer, and her mommy, Ricci Stollsteimer, Forever remembered and treasured by her biggest brother Lance Corporal Austin Spagnuolo, and doting sibling Gabriel Stollsteimer. She is also loved and remembered by grandparents Wendy and Bob Stollsteimer of Elsie, MI, Terry and Jackie Wagner of Ovid,MI, Gayla and Ron Gossman of Lakeland, Fl, Bonus Grandparents Sue and Frank Spagnuolo of Grand Ledge, MI. Treasured in the hearts of her aunts and uncles, Tristan (Patricia) Stollsteimer of Bannister, Terry Wagner Jr of Grand Ledge, Jamie (Dave) Madar of St Johns, Roni (Brad) Behrens of Ovid. Step Aunts and Uncles Kathy (Jim) Blunt, Kirt (Lyndsey) Lover, Bobbi-Jo (Dustin) Howard, Ashlie (Ryan) Randolph, Ben (Debbie) Gossman, Corey (Doug) Jones, and Becky Gossman. Many special cousins and friends made along the way.
Arlo was preceded in death by many great grandparents and grandparents, and shared an incredible and special close bond with her Great Grandma (Nani) Mary Ferrall who passed in November, 2022 and who we know was waiting for her angel to come home.
Arlo spent her entire life enveloped in the best of care and love and knew nothing more. Her parents advocated until her last breath to make sure that Arlo was well cared for and will continue their mission to find Arlo’s diagnosis and to help others. Arlo had quite a personality, and she found her own ways to communicate with her parents and others. She used her eyes, sounds and even her feet to do so. She was curious and sassy; and when she didn’t like something, she let you know. She watched closely anyone who came near her with scrubs on, she did things her own way always, and would make a liar out of any Dr, Specialist or Nurse because Arlo was Arlo, and no one told her how things would go.
She defied odds and science almost her entire life. She loved to watch Toy Story, to be sung to, to tell stories in her own way, to be read to, spending time with her cousins, to sit in her wheelchair and watch out the window. She enjoyed cuddling with her pets, watching her lights from her mobile and listening to music. She had the bluest most incredible eyes and lashes, and the most perfect angels kiss birthmark on her left cheek.
Arlo’s strength is one that will never be matched. Our hearts are broken, but they are also more full, and our souls are richer because of her. We will see you in the skies Arlo. Til we meet again.
Special mention to her hospice Nurse Karen who took great care of Arlo and the family since May, 2022 and Dr Erika who went above and beyond overseeing Arlo’s care. Being the parents to a medically fragile child can be isolating, but these 2 made sure to share in valleys and peaks. We will never forget you, and either will Arlo. Also, thank you to Sparrow PICU Nurses and staff who took great care of Arlo, always.
