Museum to open for the 2023 season

The Clinton County Historical Museum Paine-Gillam-Scott House has announced their 2023 season: Our Town: The Way We Were.

Volunteers have been busy creating an exhibit that will engage every visitor as we explore the history of St Johns from 1860 to 1999. Tons of artifacts; photographs and print from books and newspapers will give our visitors a glimpse of what life in St Johns was like during those 140 years or so.

The Museum will open on Wednesday, May17 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

2023 hours will be Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

SJPS continues search for Superintendent

 

The St. Johns Public Schools Board of Education continues to move forward with the process of selecting a new Superintendent of Schools. Fourteen (14) educators submitted applications for the position. Applicants consisted of current superintendents, central office administrators, principals, and other educators. The Board completed a thorough review of the applications and has invited five (5) educators to be nterviewed.

The interviews will be held on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16. Interviews will take place at St. Johns High School Band Room, 501 W Sickles Street, St. Johns, Michigan. The public is welcome to attend.

The interview schedule is as follows:
Monday, May 15 –
5:00PM – Kelly Corbett, Deputy Superintendent, St. Johns
6:30PM – Jay Larner, Assistant Superintendent, Mattawan
8:00PM – Greg Pratt, Superintendent (retired), Lowell
Tuesday, May16 –
5:00PM – Dr. Anthony Berthiaume, Superintendent, New Lothrop
6:30PM – Dr. Mark McGarry, Superintendent, Bellevue

Board President, Timothy Jackson says, “The applicant pool has strong and quality candidates that may meet our needs and expectations. We were pleased with the interest demonstrated in our school district. The Board is ready to learn more about the candidates’ leadership abilities and what each candidate has to offer our students, staff, and community. As always, the Board values input from the public and encourages people to attend the interviews. It is our intent to have our new superintendent on the job on July 1.”

The superintendent search became necessary as Mark Palmer announced his retirement after being employed by the district for 24 years and serving as an admirable Superintendent of Schools since 2018. Mr. Palmer continues to serve as Superintendent until his retirement effective June 30, 2023. The process is being facilitated by the Michigan Leadership Institute.


Open House for retiring pastor coming up June 29

All are invited to Kathy Leydorf-Keck’s Retirement Party on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lowe Methodist Church Social Hall located at 5485 Lowe Road, St. Johns.


SCH receives national recognition

Sparrow Clinton Hospital is celebrating its national recognition for a top score in patient satisfaction, fueled by its leading-edge medicine and highly skilled physicians.

The Sparrow Clinton Emergency Department received a four-star Excellence in Healthcare award from Professional Research Consultants, Inc. in recognition of scores in the top 25 percent nationally for “Overall Quality of Care.” The PRC Excellence in Healthcare Awards are presented to organizations and individuals who have achieved top standards in patient satisfaction scores in the previous year, based on patient surveys.

The award certification commended the Sparrow Clinton team’s “commitment to excellence that makes Sparrow Clinton’s Emergency Department a wonderful place to work, a wonderful place to practice medicine, and a wonderful place for our patients to be treated.”

Help improve transportation in the Region

Tri-County is updating the region’s Metropolitan Transportation Plan, Moving Mid-Michigan, through the year 2050, and they need your input.

Asthey prepare to kick off development of the plan later this fall, they want to understand what’s most important to you.You are invited to take the survey and tell them how the region should prioritize strategic improvements to the Greater Lansing area’s transportation system over the next 25 years.

The survey is intended to learn how you would prioritize improving mobility, infrastructure, safety, connectivity, economic opportunities and quality of life throughout Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties. The survey will be open until May 24, 2023.

RBW Class of ’59 plans reunion

 

The Rodney B Wilson High School Class of 1959 is gathering for a 64th reunion on September 14, 2023 (Thursday) at the St. Johns City Park in the main pavilion which has been reserved from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A buffet lunch will be served at 1 p.m. for $15 per person.

Byzantine Chain Maille Bracelet Class

Learn how to use the Byzantine chain maille weave to create a bracelet that can be worn by anyone. There are a wide range of colors to choose from.

The byzantine weave looks complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a lot of fun. Make a bracelet in your favorite color, your team’s colors or make bracelets to swap with your friend.
