Briggs District Library News

Online Databases – The library has recently purchased three new online databases for our patrons: the Learning Express Library’s Computer Skills Center offers video courses to learn popular software and computer basics; Global Road Warrior provides up-to-date cultural and historical information on over 175 countries; Ancestry Library Edition allows users to access billions of genealogy records, including Census, SSDI, and Military records. Note: Ancestry Library Edition is available for in-library use only.

Library Technology – In an effort to update the library’s printing capabilities, we now offer PrinterOn mobile printing. PrinterOn allows patrons to use their personal computer or mobile device to print documents from anywhere and retrieve them at the library. You may have also noticed the library has begun to transition away from desktop computers for patron use to laptops. This new arrangement allows greater flexibility to our patrons who wish to use library computers. A few desktop computers will still be available for guests of the library who do not have library cards. The library is also now circulating mobile hot spots! These portable, easy-to-use devices will allow patrons to connect any of their Wi-Fi enabled devices to the Internet, using Sprint’s 4G LTE network.

Drop-In Makerspace – Tweens ages 8-12 can attend a new after school drop-in makerspace program. On Tuesday, September 18, from 3:30-5:30p.m., we will supply all the materials needed to make various papercrafts, and tweens can spend as much time creating as they would like during this independent, self-directed program.

The entire community is invited to join us in celebrating this milestone, as we reflect on our past and look toward the future.

Briggs Reads! – The concluding event of our annual Briggs Reads! Program will be held Tuesday, September 18 from 7:00-8:00p.m. That is when Karen Dionne, author of the international bestseller, The Marsh King’S Daughter, will be at the library to discuss her book. Dionne has written a tale of “mesmerizing psychological suspense, the story of a woman who must risk everything to hunt down the dangerous man who shaped her past and threatens to steal her future: her father.” This event is free and open to the public. No library card is needed to attend, though advance registration is appreciated, and begins Tuesday, August 21.
