Detroit band brings dynamic sound to St Johns on August 9

The Detroit Retro Society, one of Michigan’s greatest music entertainment production teams, will be bringing their high-energy Detroit Music Spectacular to the William E. Tennant Performance Shell on Wednesday evening, August 9 starting at 7:00 in the beautiful St. Johns City Park.

“The Detroit Retro Society is the most talked about group from last year’s series,” says Bill Tennant, Concert in the Park committee chair. “They made such an impact on their audience last year that we just had to schedule them again this year. In this group, one of the best bands we’ve ever had, are some of the best performers in the Detroit area – and they’re adding a saxophone player to the mix this year – fun!”

Musically, the 6-piece band will be bringing a nice mix of Detroit sounds including some of the most enjoyable classics along with modern pop hits. They have shared the stage with the likes of The Temptations, Aretha Franklin and Kid Rock, to name a few. In speaking about their upcoming performance in St. Johns, the leader of the band, Jason Gittinger says, “We’re all going to have a blast that night!”

The performers on the 9th will include Gabriel “Super Gabe” Cannistracci – Vocals, Steve Kendzorski – Guitar/Vocals, Chuck Bartels – Bass, Phil Whitfield – Keyboards, James Hughes – Sax, and Jason Gittinger – Drums.

The concert is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the City of St. Johns. It is open to the public free of charge – donations are graciously accepted.

All concerts are presented rain or shine. The Lion’s Club food trailer will be available this year for a variety of food items. Tell your friends about this event – it will be quite the party.

So, set your GPS to 801 W Park St, St. Johns, bring a chair or blanket and enjoy an evening of music you won’t soon forget. The CCAC receives funding from the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

St. Johns native swims the Straits of Mackinac

St. Johns native Jessi Rositas Kincaid recently made the epic 5.08-mile swim across the beautiful Straits of Mackinac between Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas, alongside the iconic Mackinac Bridge.

“It was an incredible journey, says Kate upton. “Her pace was amazing, her form perfect, the currents were strong and for a moment they played with her mental game, but she pushed through. She was tougher than they were.

“She set a 46 minute pace, 235 minutes. A boat of supporters and a whole bunch of people greeted her.”

Jessi lives in Chelsea MI now.

Chamber of Commerce produces a local coloring book

The St. Johns Area Chamber of Commerce presents a new way to explore the community. They are thrilled to announce a vibrant, exciting addition to our range of community resources – a brand-new, locally-inspired coloring book.

This isn’t just any coloring book. Beautifully illustrated, it captures the unique spirit of our city, highlighting local landmarks, businesses and focal points of our community. This project aims not only to provide a fun, relaxing activity, but also to promote local knowledge and community pride among residents.

Everyone, regardless of age, can appreciate the soothing art of coloring. It’s a calming escape from the daily hustle, a way to express creativity and even a means to learn. This book brings this enjoyment directly into the heart of our city’s culture, offering a platform for both children and adults to connect with our city in a unique, colorful way.

Chamber members believe that this coloring book is a testament to the fact that, no matter what, we continue to build, grow, and color our future together.

Thank you to the coloring books sponsors: Clinton Transit, AgroLiquid, Ryan’s Roadhouse, Michigan Real Estate – Realtor Lansing MI – Kari Dickenson, My Handyma’am, St. Johns Area Community Fund, Ouch Urgent Care, New Look Computer & Data.

These books will be sold at the souvenir booth during Mint Festival. They can also be purchased at New Look Computer and Data. They sell for $3.00 for 1 coloring book or or $10 for 5 books.

Thank you to Jet Speed Printing for helping the Chamber put them together.
