Festival of Lights Parade carries on

The traditional Festival of Lights got off to a rocky start Friday when about 5:06 p.m. the St. Johns Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of N. Clinton Avenue on the report that a passenger trolley providing rides to Santa Parade attendees had overturned.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that the trolley carrying approximately 20 passengers had overturned with riders on board. Police, fire and ambulance personnel already there to support the event quickly provided emergency medical services for the injured persons.

An initial investigation indicates that at least 16 people sustained non-life-threatening injuries including broken bones, scrapes and bruises. All riders who received medical attention at Clinton Sparrow Hospital in St. Johns and Sparrow Hospital Main Campus in Lansing had been treated and released by the next day.

First rsponders from the St. Johns Police Department, the St. Johns Fire Department, Clinton Area Ambulance Service and Mercy Ambulance Service were on the scene. Many bystanders also offered immediate assistance including St. Johns City employees.

As part of the initial investigation by SJPD, it was determined that alcohol was not a contributing factor. The incident remains under investigation.

Help the CCAC Bring the Arts to the Community by donating

As the Clinton County Arts Council (CCAC) looks back on a year that has been both challenging and rewarding, it is already looking ahead to next year to bring even more arts related activities to the Clinton County community.

As many local non-profit organizations, CCAC has been hit hard by the challenges of a world living with, and after, COVID-19. Last year, our sales, events and donations were all down 55%, 57% and 61%, respectively. Even though our operational expenses remain relatively equal, it left us with a 57% gap to cover. In addition, our Grant for the coming year has been decreased by 75%.

The CCAC remains committed to bringing cultural experiences to Clinton County in spite of these troubling times. We believe that the arts are an integral part of the human experience, and we are committed to contributing to Clinton County a quality arts experience.

You can donate online or through the Art & Soul Gallery.
