Chronic Pain PATH workshop coming up

“Chronic Pain PATH (Personal Action Toward Health) is a 6-week workshop designed for people with chronic pain. In this interactive workshop, people are taught effective tools to better self-manage their condition and its impact on their life.

Managing chronic pain is more than taking medications. We address a variety of topics including fatigue management, dealing with difficult emotions, and pacing and planning. Includes the Moving Easy Program: safe exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and endurance. Caregivers and significant others are also welcome to sign up and attend as active participants. The workshop is free of charge courtesy of Michigan State Medical Society. Pre-registration is required.”

The Chronic Pain PATH workshop will be held at Clinton County Medical Center, 1005 S. US 127
St. Johns on Wednesdays, July 17 – August 21, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Register at the Tri-County Office on Aging at 517-887-1465. Priority is given to those 50+ but all are welcome to call. Funding provided by Michigan State Medical Society.


Acrylic Painting FUNdamentals class coming July 15, 16

Paint your own masterpiece use fundamentals of painting, including composition, value, color, lights and shadows. After a short demonstration, you will practice sketching and color mixing on a given canvas before you develop your own style using these guidelines.

A one day session with Andrea Czarnik will cost $65. Classes will be held on July 15 or 16, and participants may choose one date. Sessions at the St. Johns Train Depot will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with lunch break if needed. Registration is open to those 15 years old and up.

Soup kitchen makes stops in area

His Cup Runneth Over, a mobile soup kitchen, will be making a stop at

– First Congregational Church, 100 Maple Ave, St. Johns 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, July 16 and

– First Baptist Church/Beacon of Hope (northwest parking lot), 512 S. US 27, St. Johns from 12-1:30 pm, Thursday, July 18

– The Meadows of St. Johns, 2265 W. Parks Rd., St. Johns, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 18.

Maple Rapids Picnic is July 13

Maple Rapids Fire and Rescue will be hosting their annual Chicken BBQ Picnic on Saturday, July 13 from 1 – 5 p.m. in the Maple Rapids Park.

Please join them for live local entertainment, Kids Activities, 50-50, and a Bean Bag Tournament. Price per meal will be $5. Seating is limited, so please bring lawn chairs or a blanket. No alcohol is permitted in the park.


Summer Fun at CRV

 

July 22 – 26 Alternative Energy Cost $75
There many different ways of generating electricity. This event looks at the different ways used in Michigan. Students will travel to explore alternative methods including solar and wind.

August 7 Yankee Air Zoo Cost $35
The Yankee Air Museum provides unique historical and educational experiences through aviation, military, and home front history, such as local history focused on the Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant. Explore the many exhibits within the museum.

August 12 – 16 Robotics Competition Cost $20
Students who have gone through our robotics classes or have knowledge of Lego Robotics systems can use their knowledge to compete against other robot builders. Work as a team or an individual to create and robot that can perform a list of tasks. Each robot scores points for each activity completed and the amount of time it takes. A final winner will be crown at the end.
