Tickets are still available online for the 37th Annual Spring Wetlands Conservation Banquet.
The Clinton County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited (DU) will host it’s annual DU banquet on Friday, April 20, 2018. The event will once again be held at Smith Hall on the 4-H Fairgrounds in St Johns.
Early Bird Drawing for a YETI 20qt cooler must purchase your ticket(s) by April 13th. A limited number of tickets are available for online sale until April 16th. Get yours early. For more information on the availability of banquet tickets, call Kurt Hufnagel at 517-749-8898.
Break the Chain viewing – Thursday, April 19
On Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. all are invited to Agro Liquid for a free showing of Break the Chain.
We’re all connected to Human Trafficking. It’s time to Break the Chain. The one hour documentary is about Human Trafficking with Michigan connections. The viewing will be followed by a victim-focused panel discussion lead by 29th Circuit Judge Michelle Rick.

Mint City Singers in concert
The Mint City Singers will present As the World Turns: Summer Solstice, a choral concert on Friday, April 27 • 7:30 p.m. Wilson Center Auditorium.
The concert will be directed by Ellen Hoard with Jeff Richards on piano, Tess Miller on flute and Scott Harding on percussion. The evening will feature special guests, the Oakview South Fifth Grade Choir.
Michigan Barn Preservation Network Conference and Barn Tours are May 4 – 5

It’s once again time for the Annual Michigan Barn Preservation Network Conference and Barn Tours. This year the conference will be held at the Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers World Headquarters and Museum located in St. Johns.
The Friday annual bussed barn tour will visit eight structures at six sites in Clinton and Ionia Counties. Working Barns – Old Barns—New Lives is the theme of this tour that will visit working farms and the Portland Old Red Mill and new timber frame pavilion that now serves as a community gathering place and farmers market.
The evening dinner and program will be held at the AgroLiquid Headquarters. Keith Bruder will entertain with a program of Michigan barn photos and stories; and the Silent Auction begins.
Saturday’s conference on May 5 will begin with an annual membership meeting and door prizes.
Presentations will include:
– Barn School – guidelines for assessing the condition of your traditional barn with Steve Stier ,MBPN Vice Pres and retired barn contractor
– Brainstorming a Vision – a process used for planning for adaptive use for barns with Ron Campbell, Oakland Co. Preservation Architect
– The Pennsylvania Star Barn – restoration and reconstruction with Rick Collins, Trillium Dell Timber Framing
– MSU Museum’s Historic Scale Barn Models with Dr. Shirley Wadja, Curator of History and Dr. Eric Gollannek, Architectural Historian
Formed in 1995, the Michigan Barn Preservation Network is a Michigan 501(c)(3), promoting appreciation, preservation and rehabilitation of Michigan barns, farmsteads, and rural communities.
The mint production process at Tom Irrer’s farm will be explained during the tour.

F.C. Mason plans progress
Developers of the proposed F.C. Mason project met with the City Commission and the Planning commission and received positive feedback from both.
Environmental issues have been fully identified. Consumers Energy is working on a remediation plan that they hope to start executing in the Fall.
The City is working on zoning changes. Public hearings about these changes will be announced when they are scheduled.
Developers are working with the City and State on the redevelopment plan.
