Lights Up on Neil Simon Comedy

It’s a race to the wire. Eight actors are perfecting their lines. A team of electricians and a lighting consultant are hanging new fixtures. A backstage crew is building a set one piece at a time around ladders and tools scattered across the stage. Fund raising efforts to reach the goals for matching grants are approaching their deadlines. Every facet of the project must cross the finish line by the time the curtain opens on “God’s Favorite”, a comedy by Neil Simon.

Homegrown Productions presents this modern day interpretation of the story of Job under the new lighting system at the Wilson Center Auditorium September 27 – October 6. Tom Webb directs Bob Murrell, Michael Nelson, Patrick Monroe, Marsha Brook, Monica Holland, Darryl Schmitz, Tyler Frease, and Sarah Craft.

Show time is 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28, October 6 and 7, and at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 29. Tickets are available at the door, $10 for students age 10 – 18 and seniors age 55 plus; $15 for everyone else.


K of C raffle and dinner coming up October 19

The annual Sportsman Raffle and Hog Roast and Turkey Fry sponsored by the local Knights of Columbus will be held on Saturday, October 19. The drawing will be held at 8:00 p.m. The Grand Knight’s drawing will be at 7:30 p.m. You need not be present to win.

The dinner including roasted pork, fried turkey, baked beans, cole slaw, corn bread and ice cream from Dershey’s will take place from 6-10 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Children 4 and under are free. Self-serve takeouts will be available.

Window Painting at the library is October 1

Tweens and teens can flex their artistic muscles when they gather to paint the library’s windows for Halloween.

The library will supply all the materials, so the painters can show up ready to create on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30 p.m.

Registration is appreciated and began Tuesday, September 3. On Tuesday, November 5 at 6:30 p.m. they library will provide food and drinks when they all gather to clean the windows and prep for a winter art project.

The Mid Michigan Chamber Orchestra will be hosting a free concert at the Depot in downtown St. Johns on Thursday, October 10 at 6:30 p.m..

Moolenaar Announces Office Hours for October

Congressman John Moolenaar announced office hours to be held by constituent relations representatives at locations throughout the Fourth District. The purpose of the office hours is to help residents in need of assistance with a federal agency, like the IRS and the VA.

Hearing and Vision Screening Clinic

Vision screening is required for all children entering kindergarten. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department offers free vision testing, as well as hearing screening tests for all children ages 3 to 21.
