Bancroft receives Terry Cornwell Award

Troy Bancroft is this year’s winner of the Terry Cornwell Award, given by the St. Johns Kiwanis Club 707.

This award is given yearly to a St. Johns community member who has given selflessly with a spirit of faith, generosity, and warmth.

“Troy Bancroft is very much deserving of this award. Troy embodies the concept of “Faith, Family, and Community,” said presenter Rep. Graham Filler.

“He is driven by a sincere belief that faith is not a stagnant thing; faith should be manifested in your generosity, in loving and teaching your family, in giving to the community to bless others.”

Creating Confident Caregivers® workshops offered

The Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) is pleased to offer a new session of the popular Creating Confident Caregivers® program for non-professional caregivers of persons with dementia. The six-week session will be held on Wednesdays at the MSU Radiology Building in East Lansing beginning October 16 through November 20, 2019 from 3:30- 5:30pm.

Creating Confident Caregivers® provides persons caring for an individual with dementia living at home with information, skills and attitudes to manage stress and learn effective caregiving techniques. Two-hour sessions, led by a dementia-care specialist, are held once each week for six weeks. The evidence-based program, based on the Savvy Caregiver curriculum, teaches participants a unique perspective on dementia and helps them gain tools and resources to make their role as caregiver less overwhelming.

The program is offered locally at no cost to non-professional caregivers. Pre-registration is required. Respite care for your family member may be available at no cost while attending the sessions – please ask in advance of the workshop. To register, or for more information about classes, contact Barbara Mannino at 517-887-1418 or 1-800-405-9141.

The following is an excerpt from a letter from someone who has completed the class…

“After the first class, I felt a weight had been lifted. I learned so much. It’s helpful to know what I’m experiencing is normal and I’m not alone.”
