Eureka Christian Church to host Loomis Brothers

 

Eureka Christian Church will host their first Gospel Jamboree with the Loomis Brothers this Sunday, November 3 at 6:00 p.m.

The church is located at 619 E Maple Rapids Rd. In Eureka.


Mint Country Garden Club to meet November 7

The monthly meeting of Mint Country Garden Club will be held Thursday, November 7, at 7:15 p.m.

There has been a program change due to speaker cancellation. They will be participating in crafting activities related to nature. Please bring scissors.

Meetings are held at Clinton Commons Community Center, 1105 S. Scott Rd, St. Johns. Visitors are welcome to attend.

American Legion Auxiliary hosts Holiday Craft Show November 9

 

Start your Christmas shopping early. The American Legion Edward Stiles Post 153 Auxiliary in St. Johns is hosting a Holiday Craft Show and Bake Sale on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the VFW Hall 2497 N. US-27 in St. Johns.

Show hours will be from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. A light lunch will be available from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be random drawings held throughout the day for free gifts. Winners need not be present to win.


Free breakfast for veterans at Big Boy

The Big Boy of St. Johns will be honoring area veterans with a free breakfast for Veterans Day.

From 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11 any veteran, active military or member of law enforcement can stop by the Big Boy to enjoy a trip to the breakfast buffet.

They are grateful for the dedication of those in uniform. This is a small gesture of appreciation to all those who have so willingly served.


CRV Robotics classes coming up

Community Resource Volunteers will hold a Robotics class on November 5 through 8.

This is a free class and will be held at Community Resource Center at 304 Brush St. in St. Johns for kids 7 through 12. This class is limited to 12 students.

Moolenaar hosting Veterans Fair

Congressman John Moolenaar, in cooperation with State Senator Tom Barrett and State Representative Graham Filler, is hosting a veterans resource fair for veterans and their families on Thursday, November 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Johns VFW.

This event will feature representatives from the VA and other organizations that help our veterans with crucial services and opportunities.

Veterans who cannot make it to the event, but still need assistance with the VA, Social Security, or Medicare can call Congressman Moolenaar’s office in Midland at 989-631-2552 for help.


Briggs District Library News

Holiday Program Entertainment– Children ages 7-12 can join us Tuesday evenings, November 5-26, from 7:00-7:45 to practice a cardio drumming routine that will be performed at the Holiday Program on Thursday, December 5. Registration is required.

Thanksgiving Fun! – Children ages 3-6 years old (independent listeners) are invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with turkey tales, a holiday craft, snack and games. Join us on Wednesday, November 6, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required and open now.

One Last Chapter – Come celebrate over 35 years of story time with Miss Marie. This fun- filled evening will include games, crafts, food, entertainment, and a few surprises. This is a family event taking place on Friday, November 8 from 3:00-9:30 p.m. Families are welcome the entire night or can pick and choose their activities. See our website or stop in at the library for a list of events with times.

Ancestry – The library recently purchased Ancestry Library Edition for genealogical research, and we will be holding an introductory class to help patrons make better use of this great resource. The class will take place on Monday, November 11, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., and will cover the basics of using Ancestry Library Edition. No library card is needed to attend, but advance registration is appreciated, and is now available.

Bookaholics Book Club – The November selection of the Bookaholics Book Club is The Day the World Came to Town by Jim DeFede. This is the true story of the people of Gander, Newfoundland, and their extraordinary response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, when thirty-eight jetliners bound for the United States were forced to land at their tiny airport. The club will meet on Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 at the library. Copies of the book are now available at the circulation desk.

Euchre Club – Our adult Euchre Club will meet Friday, November 22 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. This free, fun, social is event is open to adults to register as single players or with a partner, and there is no cost or buy-in to play. Registration is very much appreciated, and is now available.

HO! HO! HO! Holiday Programs – It’s that time of year again. There will be music, stories, games, crafts and refreshments. There will be a jolly man in a red suit that will visit with each child. Hand stamps given at the door determine the order in which each child will visit with Santa. This is a great photo opportunity, so make sure to bring your camera with you. You are invited to enjoy our Holiday Programs on Thursday, December 5 (6-8 p.m.), Friday, December 6, (6:30-8:30 p.m.) or Saturday, December 7 (10:30 a.m.-noon). Registration is not required for any of these free programs.

Christmas Cartoon and Craft – Children ages 6-9 can join us on Monday, December 16 from 6:30-7:30 when we’ll make a delicious Christmas snack and watch a short cartoon. Registration is required and opens on Monday, November 18.

Tales to Tails – Ruger, a certified therapy dog, will be back at the library this fall! Children ages 6-12 can sign up for a 15-minute session to practice reading aloud to Ruger on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Connections – Patrons needing help with OverDrive/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Hearing & Vision Screening Clinic

Vision screening is required for all children entering kindergarten. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department offers free vision testing, as well as hearing screening tests for all children ages 3 to 21. WIC Benefit Pick-Up Schedule

Pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to 5 years old may be eligible for free food through the WIC (Women, Infants & Children) program. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department WIC Benefit Pick-up Clinics are scheduled as follows:
