Lenten Fish Fries begin February 28
The annual Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry will be offered beginning February 28. Subsequent dinners will be held on March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 3.
There will be Baked and Fried Fish with all the fixings available for $12. The public is welcome from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Take Outs available (989) 224-1225. Columbian Hall 1108 N. US-27 in St. Johns.
Medicine collection is Saturday, February 8
Clinton County Department of Waste Management is sponsoring an unwanted/unused medication collection Saturday, February 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the St Jude Parish Community Center at 801 North Bridge Street in DeWitt.
Be sure to black out personal information but leave the drug name visible. Please do NOT bring needles, Epi pens, inhalers, aerosols or patches. These items can only be handled at the annual spring Clean Community Event coming up on April 25 and the Free For Fall Event on October 3.

Hazel I. Finday Manor needs volunteers
An hour a Day can make a Difference. Volunteer at Hazel I Findlay Country Manor.
Assistance is needed for various Activities including Bingo, Playing cards and games, or to just chat, transporting residents to and from group activities and meals.
Volunteers also are needed to provide companionship to residents as they travel to and from appointments. No experience is needed.
Applicants must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Romancing the Tone will be coming to the Wilson Center on February 22
The quartet Romancing the Tone, consisting of Ellen Hoard, Dave Sincox, Kelly Sandula-Gruner, and Dan Templin are back for another limited engagment at the Wilson Center Auditorium.
This year will be joined by James Geer on piano, Tess Miller on flute, Scott Harding on percussion, Jack Mumma on String Bass, Darryl Schmitz as Sound Technician, Jim Lorenz as Lighting Technician and Kelly Bitz as Usher.
They will bring you songs of love during the month of love. Program starts at 7:00 p.m.
This is a fundraiser for the new lighting system at the auditorium.
Blood drive a success, next one coming up April 6

On Monday February 3rd, I attended the American Red Cross Blood Drive as a volunteer at the canteen. There were 87 presenting donors and 77 new donors that gave their time and blood for this cause.
The next blood drive will be held on April 6 from 11:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. at Columbian Hall 1108 N. US-27 in St. Johns. Please mark this on your calendar.

Briggs District Library News
Read with the Animals – Potter Park representatives are bringing stories and animal friends to Briggs Library on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. Registration for this program is appreciated.
Seed Swap – Abigail Harper from MSU Extension will be here on Monday, February 10 to discuss the One Seed, One State program and share the importance of saving seeds. We will also package seeds for the library’s seed collection. Participants are encouraged to bring seeds from their own garden to share with others during our second annual seed swap. This program will begin at 6:00. Registration is appreciated.
Lapsit Storytime – Children ages 12 – 24 months with adult participation are invited to join us for age appropriate stories, music, creative movement and simple sign language. Choose Friday mornings, 10:30 – 11 from February 14 – March 20 OR Monday evenings, 6:30-7 from February 17 – March 23. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to socialize with each other. Registration is required.
Chef’s Surprise – Budding chefs ages 7-10 can join us Monday, February 17, 10:30- 12:00 when we will learn to make a Presidential Breakfast. Registration is required for this program.
Bookaholics Book Club – The February selection of our adult book club is The Perfect Wife by JP Delaney. In this psychological thriller, a woman is miraculously restored to health by her husband’s technological breakthrough, but she struggles with fragmented memories of a past that differs from his accounts. We will meet to discuss the book on Thursday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the library in the reading area in front of the bay window. Copies of the book are now available at the circulation desk.
Euchre Club – Our adult euchre club is continuing in 2020! We meet for a relaxed, fun, social night of cards on the fourth Friday of each month from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Our next meeting is Friday, February 28. Registration is now available.
Impression 5 – Staff from Impression 5 are coming to Briggs District Library for a hands on circuit program where children will be making an LED card. This program is geared toward youth in grades 3rd-6th and will be taking place on Tuesday, March 3, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required for this event and begins on Tuesday, February 4.
Tail Spin Farm – Have you ever wondered where the yarn for your sweater came from? Did you know that yarn is made from more animals than just sheep? Come join Renee from Tailspin Farm and learn about fiber animals, spinning fiber into yarn and the tools used to do this. You can try it out for yourself! This program is geared toward children ages 4-8 but all are welcome to stay and will be taking place on Tuesday, March 10 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required for this program and begins on Tuesday, February 11.
Babysitting Workshop – Representatives from the Cardio Pulmonary Resource Center, Inc. will hold a babysitting workshop at the library, on Saturday, March 14 from 9:00- 3:00. The class is geared towards 11-15 year olds, and costs $30 per student. Upon completion of the class, the student will receive a Pediatric CPR card, a Basic First Aid card and a Babysitting Course certificate. Registration for this program is limited.
The Faygo Book – Author Joe Grimm will be at the library Wednesday, March 18 to discuss his 2019 Michigan Notable Book, The Faygo Book, and the history of this well-known Michigan product and company. Registration for this free event is appreciated, and begins Wednesday, February 19.
Toddler Storytime – Children ages 2-3 (with a participating adult) are invited to join us on Thursday mornings, 10:30-11:00, or Thursday evenings, 6:30-7:00, March 19- April 23, when we will read stories, move to the music, and explore our imagination with crafts. Registration is required and begins on Thursday, February 20.
Sip and Stitch – Bring your knitting, crochet, or other hand-stitch project to Briggs the first Tuesday of each month from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. This is a chance to socialize and gather inspiration with other crafters. Registration for this program is appreciated, but not required. Tea and coffee provided.
Coloring Club for Adults – Relax and get creative on Wednesday evenings from 6- 7:30 p.m. Use our coloring supplies or bring your own to this fun, independent program for ages 18+.
YMCA @ Briggs Library – The Dewitt YMCA is coming to town. Come join Yeno, a certified personal trainer and fitness coach, on Wednesday afternoons for a new year of health and fun. Patrons will have the opportunity to choose from three different classes. A Balance and Stability class will be offered from 1-2. A Zumba class will be offered from 2:15- 3:15 and a Cardio Drumming class will be offered from 3:30-4:30. The cost of the classes will be $5 per session for adults and $3 for youth. Participants do have the opportunity to pay for the whole month. Registration is required for these programs. Please contact the library or the Dewitt YMCA for more details.
Tales to Tails – Ruger, a certified therapy dog will be back at the library this winter! Children ages 6-12 can sign up for a 15-minute session to practice reading aloud to Ruger on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month. Space is limited, and registration is required.
Connections – Patrons needing help with OverDrive/Libby, RBDigital, or any of the library’s other e-services will be able to come to the library for drop-in tech help each Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

DeWitt native graduates from Michigan Tech
Hannah Getschman of Dewitt was among more than 325 graduates honored at Michigan Technological University’s Midyear Commencement held on the Houghton, Michigan campus on Dec. 14, 2019.
Michigan Tech alumna Jennifer (Fuller) Julien delivered the commencement address. While educated as a civil and environmental engineer, Julien has transitioned into a successful entrepreneur, investing more than $25 million into the Houghton community with her husband Jon.
The student speaker was Victoria Quinde Serrano. The native of Cuenca, Ecuador was a three-time captain on Tech women’s tennis team and served as an assistant coach in the fall season.
Getschman received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
