Obituaries

Orvest J. Davis

Orvest J. Davis went to be with our Lord on Friday, May 5, 2018 at the age of 92. He was born July 30, 1925 in Farwell, MI the son of Herman L. and Eva G. (Spenny) Davis. Orvest proudly served our country during WW II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church serving on several committees. Orvest was a former 4-H Leader and enjoyed woodworking and doing crafts. He was a member of UAW Local # 602 retiring from Lansing Fisher Body in 1977 with over 30 years of service and throughout his entire working career he was first and foremost a farmer. On November 20, 1948 he married Virginia Heiden, and she survives him.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Davis and Kathy (Harold) Schmidt; one son, Randy (Rhonda) Davis; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson and some very special neighbors, Jerry and Tammy Hine. He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church 8990 Church Rd. St. Johns with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #3733. The family will receive relatives and friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Clinton County 4-H or St. Peter Lutheran Church.


Joyce Elaine Wagar

Joyce Elaine Wagar, age 87 of Elsie, MI, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018, at her home with her family by her side.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will take place at a later date.

Joyce was born in Tulsa, OK on August 14, 1930, the daughter of Ernest and Emma (Seymore) Falor. She married Walter Wagar on April 29, 1977, in St. Johns, MI. Joyce retired from Sealed Power in St. Johns, MI. She enjoyed going to the casino, camping and working in her yard. Joyce loved the time spent with her friends and family.

She is survived by husband Walter Wagar of Elsie, MI; daughter Karen and Bob Moody of Thomasboro, IL; daughter Sue Wagar of Owosso, MI; grandchildren: Matthew and Jennie Sehlke of DeWitt, MI; Andrew and Kadie Dean of Phoenix, AZ; Angel and Mike Lathrop of St. Petersburg, FL; Jeremie and Amanda Peterson of Clarksville, MI; Heather and Steve Weber of Owosso, MI; and 10 great grandchildren: Mayah, Grace, Preston, Noah, Chase, Maggie, Ella, Hunter, Grace, and Lilah. She is also survived by sister Cherrie May, brother Garrie Falor, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stan Carter, and 7 sisters and brothers.

Donald W. Theis

Donald William Theis, 72, of Fowler, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2018. Don was born October 27, 1945 to John and Leona (Platte) Theis of Westphalia, Michigan. He grew up in Fowler/Westphalia area and lived in Fowler at the time of his passing. He attended St. Mary School and Pewamo-Westphalia High School.

Donald is survived by his children, Rebecca, Elizabeth (Kolya), Mary Kay, and Jason. Don is also survived by two sisters, Germaine Miller of Westphalia and Marie Cook of Portland; one brother, Leon (Mary) Theis of Fowler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona Theis; sister, Geraldine Nurenberg; brothers-in-law, Gerald Miller, William Cook, and Dennis Nurenberg.

Don was the owner and operator of Northwest Excavating and took great pride in his work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, and served in the Michigan National Guard.

Don was a very devout Catholic and was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Westphalia all of his life. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Weber presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 7, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel on Monday. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland, Michigan.


Charolette Cora Csapos

Charolette Cora Csapos, age 92 of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at her home with her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.

Charolette was born on December 25, 1925 the daughter of Elgie and Alma Somers. She attended Elsie Schools. On November 20 1948 she married Vincent Paul Csapos in Laingsburg, Michigan. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Vincent passed away on April 7, 2015. Charolette resided most of her life in Ovid.

Charolette retired from Universal Electric in Owosso. She was a member of the VFW Ovid Post Women’s Auxiliary also she and Vincent helped at the K of C Hall in Owosso. Charolette was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. When her children were in school she was active with the Ovid Elsie Band Boosters. She loved her home, even helped to design it but caring for her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her 5 sons: William and Sally Csapos; Daniel and Vickie Csapos; Larry Csapos; Garry Csapos; Vincent and JoAnn Csapos; 4 grandchildren: Sophia, Ethan, Cameron and Derek; 3 great-grandchildren: Cora, Logan and Mason; brother John Somers. Charolette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter in infancy Barbara Ann Csapos, also her sister Dorothy Fruchey.

Michael Benjamin Kenny

Michael Benjamin “Mike” Kenny age 68, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lowe United Methodist Church 5485 W. Lowe Rd., St. Johns, Michigan at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mike was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 1, 1949, the son Francis and Murial (Stout) Kenny. He attended Eastern High School in Lansing. On his seventeenth birthday, Mike began serving his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed on the DMZ in Korea. On March 27, 1971, Mike married Mary Jo Dodge at St. Casmir’s Catholic Church, Lansing, MI. Together they celebrated 47 years of marriage in March. Mike worked for General Motors 30 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of Lowe United Methodist Church.

Mike was an avid classic car enthusiast from hot rods to corvettes. He was a great lover of animals, making many strays part of the family. Mike’s greatest love has always been and will always be his children and grandchildren. He liked to feed anybody who came to the house.

Mike is survived by his mother: Murial Kenny of St. Johns, wife: Mary Jo Kenny of St. Johns, 3 children: Tim (Sherry Butcher) Kenny of St. Johns, Luci (Jason) Isles of Bannister, and Matt Kenny of St. Johns. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Gabby Isles, Gavin Isles, and McCoy Kenny, sister Susan (Ron) Clingerman of Jackson. Mike was preceded in death by his father.
