Keith K. Mygrants

Keith K. Mygrants, 97, of Zephyrhills, FL formerly of St. Johns, MI died Monday, June 15, 2020. He was born May 29, 1923 in Clinton County, MI the son of Willis and Beulah (Tabor) Mygrants. Keith attended Price School and graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns where he was a member of the Honor Society.

He worked on the family farm and the REO factory in Lansing before enlisting in the Army on March 3, 1944. Keith saw active duty in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was wounded twice earning the Purple Heart and the Cluster along with several other medals. After the war he was stationed in Berlin where he received the rank of T/SGT.

Keith returned home to the farm and married Shirley Woodhams. They had six children, Michael, Richard, Roger, Janette, Patricia and David. Keith worked for General Motors Oldsmobile Division in skilled trades for 38 years before his retirement. On October 6, 1973 he married Nancy Hill Shaw at the Penway Church of God adding five more children to the family, Althea, Susan, Mary, Jeffrey and Janet. Keith was an active member of several military groups such as the American Legion, VFW and was secretary for 78th Division Veterans Association for 23 years. In July of 1990 Keith and Nancy moved to Florida.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy; children, Michael Mygrants, Roger (Robin) Mygrants, Janette (Scott) Neal, Patricia Hall, Althea (John) Bowen, Susan (Bruce) Smeltzer, Mary (Darrell) Parker, Jeffrey Shaw and Janet Ballard; 18 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Salters, sons, Richard and David Mygrants and grandson, Bruce Smeltzer Jr.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Wilsey Cemetery near DeWitt, MI with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Military honors will be provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends 5-7 PM on Friday June 19 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Those in attendance are asked to follow the COVID-19 protocols and practice social distancing and to use a face covering.


Christopher A. Ross

Christopher A. Ross age 42 passed away on June 15, 2020 at his home. He was born on September 11, 1977 in Lansing, MI the son of Douglas W. Ross and Diane E.B. Ross. Chris graduated from St. Johns High School Class of 1995. He worked in construction and enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, gun collecting and remodeling. He loved spending time with his family and friends, making people laugh and drinking beer.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly Moore, sons, Javin Ross, and Gage Ross and daughter Sydney Ross; his mother, Diane Ross and father Douglas (Lorena) Ross; sisters, Shelby (Christopher) Gombosi, Heidi (Joshua) Courser and brother Joel (Tina) Ross.

The family will have a private visitation at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, June 19, 2020. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at his sister’s home, 14145 Francis Rd., Lansing, MI 48906 at 11:00 A.M.

Virgil Eugene Seeley

Virgil Eugene Seeley, age 75, of Lansing, MI, passed away Monday, June 15, 2020, at Medilodge of Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Monday, June 22, 2020 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.

Virgil was born in Lansing, MI on July 30, 1944, the son of Carl and Lucille (Palmer) Seeley. Virgil remodeled and renovated many homes over the years. He enjoyed painting and being around people.

He is survived his sisters: Naomi Crystal of Arizona, and Juanita Torlia; nephews: Dale and Lisa Palacios of Maple Rapids, MI; Daniel Palacios of Lansing, MI; Randy Palacios of Lansing, MI; and Rowland Palacios of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roger Lee Miller

Roger Lee Miller, 69, of St. Johns, MI, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns.

A Visitation will be held at North Point Church, 505 E. Webb Rd., DeWitt, MI on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 6-8 P.M.

Roger was born in Alma, MI on July 25, 1950, the son of Byrd LaVere and Hazel Isabel (White) Miller. He graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1969. He served his country in the United States Army.

In 1969 Roger married Brenda Biddinger. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2016.
On September 15, 2018, Roger married Diane Jean Rademacher at their home in St. Johns.

Roger retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He later worked for Clinton Transit for 8 years. Roger loved hunting, fishing and riding/driving horses. He enjoyed bike riding and often rode 10 mile each day. He spent many enjoyable days at the lake and his last 2 winters in Florida. Most of all, Roger loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife Diane Rademacher of St. Johns, son Heath (Carrie) Miller of St. Johns, daughter Jannea (Keith) Miller of Kalona, IA, and 3 step-children: Wesley (Elizabeth) Rademacher of St. Johns, Rachel (Ken) Lowell of St. Johns, and Sara (Brad) Brandt of Canton. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Rylee, Mason, Chase, Nolan, Helen, and Zack; 10 step-grandchildren: Alexyss, Harleigh, Max, Norah, Morgan, Ethan, Parker, Abagail, Dominic, and Dawson; 3 brothers: Wayne (Anita) Miller, Don (Lynette) Miller, and Dean (Donna) Miller; and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Brenda (2016).

The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.


Lee R. Chant

Lee R. Chant died Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the age of 86. He was born December 6, 1933 in Riley Township, Clinton County, MI the son of Raymond and Lucille (Forbes) Chant. Lee was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and served as a Riley Township Supervisor for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved playing cards with family and friends. He loved spending time in the woods cutting wood and enjoyed going to antique tractor shows. Lee was a lifelong farmer and worked for General Motors in Plant Engineering retiring in 1989 with 34 years of service.

He loved challenging projects whether it was on the farm or at GM. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t figure out how to repair or build.

Lee married Lois Gene Jury in June of 1954 and they were married until her death in 1971. They had four children, Chris, Lori, Jeff, and Gary. On January 9, 1972 he married Linda Smith Bailey and she survives him.

Also surviving are his children, Chris Chant, Lori (Gary) Thelen, Jeff (Carol) Chant, Eric (Holli) Bailey, Kevin (Michelle) Bailey and Gary (Terri) Chant; 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren with one on the way. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Ashenfelter and Mary Deshotel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church 8990 Church Rd. St. Johns with Pastor Timothy Bayer officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 PM at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, June 17 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Those in attendance are asked to follow the COVID-19 protocols and practice social distancing and to use a face covering. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.


Charles J. Halfmann

Charles J. Halfmann peacefully passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88. He was born November 19, 1931 in Fowler, MI the son of Alfred Sr. and Seraphine (Noeker) Halfmann. Charlie is a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler and the Knights of Columbus. He is an Army veteran serving during the Korean War and is a member of VFW Post # 3733.

Charlie enjoyed bowling and golf where he scored a hole-in-one and then later in life shot his age at 80. He enjoyed a variety of activities during his life such as walking, running, bike riding and loved playing cards with friends, his children and grandchildren. He was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels, had a great sense of humor and was an avid crossword puzzle worker. During his working career Charlie was a banker. Starting in 1949 in what was Fowler State Bank and retiring in 1993 from Citizens Bank. He enjoyed being able to make loans to many people over the years to help them start their local small businesses and farms. On April 16, 1955 he married Marilyn Thelen and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Marilyn; one son, Dave (Donna); three daughters, Deb (Todd) Wines, Cheri (Jim) Theis and Pam (Chris) Ervin; grandchildren, Aaron (Tera) Halfmann, Jamie (Ken) Lackscheide, Zach Halfmann, Corey (Elizabeth) MacKinnon, Nick (Sarah) MacKinnon, Jessica (Zach) Gwinnup, Tyler (Melanie) Theis, Alex (fiancée Morgan Tuthill) Ervin and Austin Ervin; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Alfred Jr. and Bob(Donna); sister, Ann (Larry) Pohl; sisters-in-law, Sharon and Carol Halfmann and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Robby MacKinnon; brothers, Kenneth and James; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Don) Fedewa and sisters-in-law, Joyce and Gladys Halfmann.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Tony Brandau and his staff at Red Cedar Oncology for the exceptional care they provided to Charlie.

The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Marie Joanne Verellen

Marie Joanne (Green) Verellen passed away on June 13, 2020 at the family home. She was born in St. Johns, MI on April 16, 1945, the daughter of Samuel and Omah (Webster) Green who have both preceded her in death. She will be laid to rest at Lowe Cemetery. A memorial will be held outdoors at the family’s home on Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 P.M.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Harry Verellen, children: Brenda (Donald), Faye (Kristi), Mark (Amy), and Tony, grandchildren: Jesse (Stephanie), Victoria, Tyler, Damion, Dakota, Theresa, Samantha, and Mason. She is also survived by one sister Pat (Dale) Mitchell and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was raised in St. Johns and graduated from Rodney Wilson High school. She attended Central Michigan University where she received her Bachelor of Science in teaching.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or Sparrow Home Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, Michigan.


June Joyce Price

June Joyce Price, age 87, of St. Johns, MI, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 13, 2020, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Johns, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Smith Family Funeral Homes – Osgood Chapel and on Wednesday at 12:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church.

June was born in Merrill, Wisconsin on June 26, 1932, the daughter of Gustave and Hattie (Reinke) Ney. She attended school in Merrill, Wisconsin. On March 29, 1952, June married Daniel R. Price at St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Johns, Michigan. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage.

June was a people person and was always ready for a good conversation with friends. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ and going to dances with her sisters. June loved playing games of all sorts with family and friends! Most of all, June loved her family and looked forward to attending the grandsons’ ball games.

June was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church and volunteered with the funeral dinners and meals for Seniors through the church. She was involved in Ladies’ Bible Study and Vacation Bible School.

June is survived by her husband Daniel Price, 5 children: Timothy (Sue) Price, Cheryle (Robert) Mitchell, Michael (Mary) Price, Jeffery Price, and Lynette (Tony) Weaver; 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren and a sister Vivian (Gary) Albright. June was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Carolyn, one brother Sheldon Ney, and 5 sisters: Elsie (Jim) Powers, Erna Husted, Marion (Ruben) Kautzer, Beulah (Robert) Erickson, and Natalie (William) Borchardt.

Roger L. Wyrick

Roger L. Wyrick died unexpectedly Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the age of 71. He was born January 27, 1949 in St. Johns, MI the son of W. Madison and Vivian (Wilkie) Wyrick. Roger graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School, Class of 1967 and is a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church in St. Johns. He is an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War and is a member of the American Legion, Post # 153, VFW, Post # 4113 and the DAV. The past several years he enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.

Roger retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a lifelong farmer operating the Roger Wyrick Orchard just outside of St. Johns. He was a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the fishing trips that were made into Canada. In 1988 he married Pamela Keiser and she survives him.

Also surviving is one son, Brian (Jessica) Wyrick; step-children, Brian (Lisa) Armijo and Robin (Eric) Hess; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Kristine Jacobs and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry Mills and brother-in-law, Dr. Allen Jacobs.

Following Roger’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Legion, Post # 153 110 E. Walker St. St. Johns or Pilgrim United Methodist Church 2965 W. Parks Rd. St. Johns 48879. The family was assisted with these arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.


Jason A. Seltin

Jason A. Seltin, age 56, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Jason was born on October 1963 in Lansing, MI, the son of Richard and Edith (Hulett) Seltin. He graduated from East Lansing High School and received his BA degree from Michigan State University and Criminal Justice Degree from Lansing Community College. Jason worked as a System Administrator at Delta Dental. Jason was enthused with photography, reading, and woodworking.

He is survived by his son, Benjamin R. Seltin of St. Johns and brother Christopher Seltin of Royal Oak, MI.

Memorial services will be held at a Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 A.M. until service time.
