SJHS graduates honored downtown

Be sure to check out St. Johns High School’s Senior Tribute Banners in St. Johns.

All the banners are downtown in the first three blocks. All Seniors are presented in alphabetical order starting at the courthouse and going north, then turning around and going south.

The banners were printed by Sports Stop and paid for in kind by the Downtown Development Authority.

Music of the 80s coming to concert series

With their authentic 80s sound, Miranda and the M80s are the featured group in the fourth concert in the St. Johns Concert in the Park series. They will be presenting their highly energetic rock show on Wednesday, July 22 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the William E. Tennant Performance Shell at the St. Johns City Park.

“You will witness one of the most engaging energy driven shows of the summer,” says Bill Tennant, concert coordinator. “This group thoroughly loves performing as they totally embrace the great sounds of the 80s. They are truly dedicated to keeping those wonderful songs as alive today as they were back then.”

Miranda and The M80s were formed in 2014 and have been thrilling audiences throughout Michigan ever since. The group is led by St. Johns native Jeff Dietrich on drums/vocals, Drew Garrison on bass guitar/vocals, The Axe on guitars/vocals/tracks with the consummate front lady Miranda Amy. Together they will be performing some of their favorite songs, including some of the biggest hits by some of the top artists and groups of the 80s decade, which include numbers by Queen, Journey, Prince, Stevie Nicks, Heart, Whitney Houston and many more.

The weekly concerts are being presented under strict safety guidelines that have been established by the State of Michigan, the City of St. Johns and the Concert in the Park Committee. During these unprecedented times, the guidelines must be followed if the series is to be continued each week.

Wearing of Masks and Social Distancing are both required this year.

A decision will be made each week on whether the next concert can take place. Please check the Performance Shell Facebook Page or the Clinton Count Arts Council’s Website at www.clintoncountyarts.org before coming each week. Also please note that the Lions Club Food Trailer will not be at the concerts this summer. Concerts are held each Wednesday evening, rain or shine.

Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the City of St. Johns. The Clinton County Arts Council receives support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Blue Bus support to be on the August 4 ballot

“Just a reminder that access to transportation means access to work, to food, to medical care, to social activities, to daycare. . . and well, to just about everything,” says St. Johns Mayor Eric Hufnagel.

“Public transportation makes that possible for many who would otherwise be without the access you and I sometimes take for granted. Don’t forget about this issue on the ballot on August 4.”

Recording in the Park

Backpack Giveaway at TCC July 25

Students in St. Johns are about to benefit from a national backpack giveaway.

TCC corporate stores are handing out backpacks on Sunday July 26.

Because the St. Johns location is a private locally owned store, they are not open on Sundays, so their backpack give away will be on Saturday July 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. or while supplies last.

One backpack per child, and the child must be present. There are no rain checks.

So go on out and get a free backpack with school supplies.

In case you don’t know where TCC is, they are the local Verizon store in the Southgate Plaza next to Little Caesars.
