SJHS joins SJMS in move to Remote Learning

Due to staffing limitations St. Johns High School will move to remote learning until Tuesday, October 20.

A staff member at the high school has tested positive for COVID-19. This led to several staff members and students being quarantined for two weeks. As a result there are not enough staff members to provide for in-person learning.

The Mid-Michigan District Health Department has investigated the situation and is working with the staff to identify any individuals who need to be quarantined.

Earlier this week an individual at St. Johns Middle School tested positive for COVID-19. The Mid-Michigan District Health Department investigated the situation and worked with school staff. This has led to several staff and students having to be quarantined for the next two weeks.

St. Johns Schools will continue to implement thorough cleaning procedures to protect staff and students. They will implement enhanced cleaning protocols in the entire building before the return of staff and students to that faclity.

Out of an abundance of caution and due to the limited number of substitute teachers available, Middle School students only will move to remote learning for the next two weeks. In-person classes will resume on Monday, October 19.

Students should follow their daily schedule and connect in with their classroom teacher through Google Classroom. If a student is in need of materials that are currently in the building, please contact the Middle School Main Office at 939-227-4300.

Here are some safety suggestions:
If you wish to participate, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Michigan Department of Health have both determined that traditional door to door trick or treating is a high-risk activity as far as Covid-19 is concerned.

Suggested guidelines if you wish to participate in door-to-door trick or treating:
– Maintain social distancing
– Wear an approved CDC mask under your costume
– Wash or sanitize hands often
– Groups should be members of the same household
– Avoid congregating with others and keep moving
– Only go to houses where safety practices are being used

Suggestions for homeowner’s participating:
– Use tape to mark 6′ distances on your walkway
– Set up a table in your driveway or away from your front door to distribute individually wrapped candy. Sanitize table often.

Limit parties to family groups of 10 persons or less; private parties should be avoided.

Trunk or treat events, which are usually done by non-profit or church groups, are also considered high-risk so similar CDC guidelines are also recommended.

Assistance with Medicare Open Enrollment available

From October 15 to December 7 each year, you can make changes to your Medicare Advantage or Medicare prescription drug coverage for the following year. This can be a confusing process with all of the mailings and ads on television prodding beneficiaries to change to one plan or another. Choosing the wrong plan can be a costly mistake, so what can be done?

The Michigan Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program has certified counselors available to assist beneficiaries with unbiased information on the plans available. The counselors are available in every county in Michigan. These services are free to those on Medicare and is paid for with grants from the Center for Medicare Services.

In Clinton County, Capital Area Community Services provides this service, with funding from the Tri-County Office on Aging. To reach a counselor call 800 803-7174 or call 989 224-6702.
