Eggs 1, 2, 3 in line for another award

St. Johns native’s book is Cybils Awards finalist
“Eggs 1, 2, 3: Who Will the Babies Be?” by St. Johns native Janet Kloeckner Halfmann is a finalist for the 2012 Cybils awards in the Nonfiction Picture Book category.
The judges described the book this way: “Is it a counting book, is it a poetry book, is it an informational picture book (the category for which it is nominated), is it a pattern book, does it allow for predicting and inferring, or is it a book full of wonderful language? Delightfully for the reader, it is all of the above! Janet Halfmann has done a lovely job teaching the reader about different animals and the eggs from which they come.”

Eggs 1, 2, 3 is a lift-the-flap book for children ages 2-6, published by Blue Apple Books. It is Illustrated by Betsy Thompson, who uses richly textured papers and fabrics to fashion cut-paper collages.
The Cybils are the annual literary awards of a large community of internet bloggers who discuss children’s and young adult books. The books are judged on literary merit and kid appeal. The winners will be announced on Valentine’s Day.
Halfmann is the award-winning author of thirty-five books for children. Recent titles include “Home in the Cave;” “Star of the Sea: A Day in the Life of a Starfish,” “Fur and Feathers,” “Good Night, Little Sea Otter,” “Little Skink’s Tail,” and “Seven Miles to Freedom: The Robert Smalls Story.”
Before becoming a children’s author, Halfmann was a daily newspaper reporter, a children’s magazine editor, and a creator of coloring and activity books for Golden Books. She is the mother of four and the grandmother of four. Halfmann grew up on a farm in the St. Johns/Fowler area and now lives in South Milwaukee, WI.
Signed copies of Halfmann’s books are available at the Art Gallery in downtown St. Johns. They also are available at local and online bookstores.
