Soap Box Derby

This photo of the 1964 Soap Box Derby was taken in downtown St. Johns at the head of N. Clinton Ave. Racers are about to take off on the starting ramps and head for the finish line at the end of the 300 block of N. Clinton Ave.
Due to the scandals (using devices not allowed in the rules) that took place around that time the sponsors dropped support of the Soap Box Derby in St. Johns.
This eliminated another crowd gathering event downtown.
