Tomasek’s Pastels featured at The Gallery

October 6
A local artist who has received a number of recent recognitions will be featured at The Gallery during the October Sunday Event hosted each month by the Clinton County Arts Council. Thomas Tomasek, who works primarily in pastels will have many of his works on hand to display and discuss during the October 6, 1-3 p.m. reception.
Tomasek has received many awards and special recognitions for his works, most recently having one of his painting selected for inclusion in a book to be published this fall by Leelanlau Press. The effort, entitled “Oasis Sleeping Bear Interior” was inspired by a hike through the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes. The selection precludes the painting from being part of the October open house, however Tomasek will have copies of the book and prints available following publication.
Another honor this year was the selection of one of his paintings during the Muskegon Museum’s 85th annual Purchase Award held in April. It is an event where corporate or private interests purchase pieces of art from the museum for personal or public display. The event is the oldest of its kind in M ichigan.
Aside from intra-state recognitions, Tomasek was an honorable mention in the Pastel Journal. The magazine is a national publication and annually holds competition for pastel works.
As usual this monthly open house refreshments will be served. This month’s sponsor is Friends of the Gallery.
The Gallery is located at 215 N. Clinton Ave. in St. Johns and information regarding the monthly Sunday Event – and other Council related activities – can be obtained by calling 989 224-2329 or visiting clintoncountyarts.com.
