1956 Centennial Bastille moved

by Barry Bauer

On Wednesday, September 28th and during the wee hours of the morning, the 1956 Centennial Bastille was moved to its new and more permanent location at the PGS Museum on Maple St.
The trip was a short one and uncomplicated by daytime traffic which was what the DPW planned. The St. Johns High School wrestling team came over after school and moved the Bastille a short distance to its footings along side the old Carriage House which is part of Museum.
The young guys shouldn’t have to lift anymore weights today.
Thanks to Dennis LaForest, city manager, Steve Rademacher and the DPW, Diane Carlson and her staff at PGS Museum, and the St. Johns High School Wrestling Team for their efforts in preserving this piece of St. Johns history.
