New construction, renovations at SJHS bring big changes
Seats have been removed from the auditorium, and renovations to that space are in progress. The auditorium is on schedule for completion in November.
St. Johns School Board members got an up-close-and-personal look at all the changes taking place at St. Johns High School during a recent tour of the project that involves major renovations to the existing structure and new construction.
Renovation work in Unit E (the media center and surrounding classrooms) is nearing completion and a temporary walkway connecting the main entry hallway to the new academic wing will be removed during spring break week. The renovated media center and adjacent classrooms will be completed by September.
Seats from the auditorium have been removed and renovations to that space are in progress. The auditorium is on schedule for completion in November.
Work on new construction additions – the cafeteria/kitchen, swimming pool and competition gym – is also on target for completion by September. The pool floor has been poured, and windows and translucent panels are being installed. The gym is being painted, and gym equipment is being installed.
Demolition of the existing pool and renovation of that space for use as the new band/music area is set to begin; the renovated space will be open in September. Renovation of the existing orchestra area begins in October 2013; completion May 2014.
