Accept debit and credit cards
Grab your credit/debit card and your volunteer cap and head to Sparrow Clinton Hospital Gift Shop where either item will be readily accepted – credit cards and volunteers! “As our average sale size has increased over the years, we’ve had a growing request for card payments,” explained Chery Goff, Auxiliary member and gift shop treasurer. “Now, since our association with the Sparrow network, it became easy for us to enlist in a non-cash payment program.”

Auxiliary member Judy Minner, left, completes a transaction for Sheryl Parker on the new accounting system at Sparrow Clinton Hospital Gift Shop.
The system is completely installed, up and running, and gift shop volunteers are undergoing training. “We recently lost a large sale of several items because the buyer wanted to use her credit card and we were unable to accommodate.”
Meanwhile, Auxiliary members are spreading the word that recruiting volunteer help at the gift shop is high on the group’s list. The Gift Shop is operated by Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary members. However, persons wishing to donate some volunteer hours need not be Auxiliary members to work in the Gift Shop. They may simply sign on a scheduled period or, perhaps be identified as an “at call” possibility. Hours worked will be recorded and service recognition will be accrued.
“It’s still a little ahead of the season,” observed Ms. Goff, “but the new credit system and volunteer recruit efforts are in preparation for the fall and holiday periods. While patient census affects our business, we know the latter part of the year sets a steady pace and one where help is needed most.”
