Holiday activities for kids in St. Johns

santaletterthFun things for kids to do in St. Johns while waiting for Christmas
santaletterLetters to Santa can once again be mailed in the Railroad Post Office car which sits on the tracks outside the Depot.
A lighted staircase leads children up to the mail slot, while a wonderful large image of Santa stands beside the stairway, welcoming children. That train car was built in 1902 for the purpose of carrying mail from town to town. For about 100 years, 95% of the mail in the United States was carried by rail cars.
Mischievous Elves who escaped from Santa during the Santa Parade can be found by anyone willing to look in windows in the three downtown blocks of Clinton Avenue. These elves keep moving around, so the game is to try to find them in each window where they stay for a few days.
Each elf is in a different window Saturdays – Tuesdays, and then switches to another window Wednesdays – Fridays. There are postcards in most stores downtown ready to be picked up by anyone who wants to write down where they saw the elves. There are spaces on the back of the postcard to write the store where the elf was seen and the date. Find them in as many windows as you can.
The cards can be turned in after Christmas to the Sport Stop, Kurt’s Appliance Center or Brigg’s Public Library.
After January 6, names will be drawn from all of the cards turned in for prizes donated by area businesses. The date, time and location for that drawing will be published later.
