Foundation makes annual awards

St. Johns Area Community Fund
Two more area non-profit groups will soon be able to further the good they do in the St. Johns area when they receive the second annual grant awards from the St. Johns Area Community Fund (SJACF).
All who would like to join the celebration as the awards are announced are invited to attend the SJACF annual meeting, being held on Tuesday, May 15, 7:00 PM at CCRESA.
“Come one, come all,” said John Sirrine, the current president of SJACF, enthusiastically. “Hear a motivational talk, enjoy some carrot cake and coffee courtesy of Main Street Café, and celebrate the awardees.” If you’d like to attend, please RSVP to Jenny McCampbell at mccampbe@msu.edu or call 224-6134.
The SJACF, which is a charitable field of interest fund under the Capital Region Community Foundation (CRCF), has been in existence just 3 short years. This is an endowment fund, meaning that any money spent comes from the interest income from investments, allowing the actual fund to grow and provide money for grants for ever.
Through the generosity of the community, this is the second year in which SJACF has been able to bestow grants totaling $1,000 to benefit the community.
“As more people become aware of this opportunity to give back to our community and contribute to the endowment fund, the faster the fund will grow, and the larger the pool of money available for community grants will be,” stated Sirrine. “All of this will help SJACF in its mission: to support initiatives, programs and projects to improve and promote the quality of life in the St. Johns area. For good. For ever.”
Everyone who would like to join the citizens dedicated to seeing this fund grow are asked to send a donation to: St. Johns Area Community Fund, PO Box 33, St. Johns, MI 48879. The checks should be made out to CRCF/SJACF so the donations will be designated specifically for the St. Johns Area Community Fund.
The business community has generously stepped forward to underwrite the expenses of the annual meeting so none of the interest from the endowment needs to be spent for operational costs. Those sponsors are: Avery Eye Care Center, Firstbank, Hanover’s Michigan Mints, McKenzie and Crosby Agency, Main Street Café, MI Milk Producers Association, Osgood Funeral Homes, Plum Line Landscape & Design, Uncle John’s Cider Mill, Inc., John E. Wieber, PC and The Country Store and Garden Shop.
