Meet Scarlet
You’d think that a kid with the name of Scarlet would be partial to the color red. But not our Scarlet – she likes purple. Actually, she loves purple! Everything she wears is purple, and more than anything, she wants a purple bedroom. Scarlet is getting her wish. Her new Habitat bedroom is positively purple – and so is the bathroom.
Scarlet and her family are due to move in to their new home in St. Johns in late October.
Thanks to the hundreds of hours of donated time, and thousands of dollars of donated building materials and construction expertise, Scarlet and her family will finally have a decent and affordable place to live.
The Morence family has been living in a cramped, two-bedroom apartment in Ovid, right on M-21. Once Scarlet’s mom, Kirsten Morence, learned about the opportunity to own her own home by becoming a Habitat for Humanity family, she jumped at the chance. Scarlet (5), her sister Brooklyn (2) and little brother Jack (1) are all excited to have a home of their own and a safe yard where they can play.
Scarlet currently attends the Clinton County RESA Head Start program in St. Johns and is looking forward to starting kindergarten at Oakview Elementary in 2013.
Even if your passion isn’t purple, you can easily see why Scarlet is happy. With a new home, a safe back yard and a purple bedroom, the world looks a lot more promising to Scarlet.
If you know of a family in need of decent housing that might be interested in becoming a Habitat home-owner, please let us know. Contact Habitat for Humanity at (989) 227-1771.
