State Rep. Tom Leonard
State Rep. Tom Leonard, R-DeWitt, will chair the House Insurance Committee in the 98th Legislature in addition to his floor leadership role as speaker pro tempore. In these positions Leonard will help to lead important floor discussions and committee deliberations on behalf of all Michigan residents and the 93rd House District.
“Insurance reform has been a top priority of Republican leadership since I first took office in 2013,” Leonard said. “The high costs of auto insurance especially are one issue I hear about often from local residents, and an issue that we plan to delve into and work toward solutions for.”
As committee chair Leonard will preside over debate, decide which bills are brought up for consideration, make rulings on procedure and announce the results of votes. Now in his second term in the House, he served as vice chair of the insurance committee last term.
“I’m eager to pick up where we left off last term and continue to see our state improve,” Leonard said. “We’ve worked hard to rebuild our economy, and I look forward to continuing action on important policy changes that have the ability to make Michigan the best possible place to live for all residents.”
