More than words on paper
Owning a firearm and being properly trained in its safe usage will do more to safeguard your family than anything else you could possible do to protect them.
Can you think of any other form of self defense that could help a frail eighty year old grandmother fully defend herself against a drug crazed ex-con who is coldly prepared to murder her for whatever small amount of cash she may possess in her purse?
Is there any other form of self defense that you could teach your wife or daughter that could help save her from being gang raped by 5 thugs assailants in a parking ramp at night, other than her possessing a firearm with complete knowledge and preparation necessary for her to use it in a crisis situation?
Firearms are the most democratic weapon on earth. Guns unquestionably provide the greatest measure of safety for either the weak or the strong; rich or the poor; for the person living in the country side far removed from a police station, or the city dweller; and also the law abiding individual needing to defend himself against either an armed criminal, or against the overwhelming force of a potential future tyrannical government (which is the very reason our wise founding fathers gave us our precious second amendment.)
Believe me when I say this: Criminals certainly won’t ever be giving up their unregistered guns, and neither should you give up your legally owned firearm. This is the United States of America and you have that right!
