Meet the director party January 28
A local community choir that has performed in several venues the past couple of years recently came under the direction of a new leader, a music education major who has already brought innovation to the weekly rehearsals.
Brett Yzquierdo will be greeted during a Meet the Director party, Monday Jan. 28, 2013 during regular 7:30 p.m. Monday rehearsal at St. Johns Lutheran Church.
Choir President Carol Malewska issued a public invitation, welcoming anyone interested in meeting Mr. Yzquierdo or considering joining a singing group. “We’re always looking for new members,” she said, “and we enjoy having a little fun along with singing. It’s with song and pleasure that we welcome Brett!”
The Mint City Singers have most recently completed a busy holiday season, performing at festive gatherings throughout the St. Johns area, and already the group has calendar dates for the new year.
Meanwhile, Mr. Yzquierdo, who is native of Holland, MI, – now living in DeWitt – holds a bachelors degree in music from Alma College where he studied piano, voice and percussion. During his time at Alma College, he participated in several instrumental and vocal ensembles and has the pleasure of leading a number of acapella choruses including Off-Kilter Chamber Choir, Phi Mu Alpha Men’s Chorus, Men of Music and Scots on the Rocks acapella group. “I am very pleased to be working with a passionate community choral group such as the Mint City Singers and look forward to our time together.”

The Mint City Singers is a group of men and women who rehearse a varied agenda of music each week and accept invitations for complimentary performances throughout the St. Johns area. While the group meets at the Lutheran Church, Mint City Singers is non-denominational and graciously accepts the hospitality of the church in providing space for weekly sessions.
Officers include President Carol Malewska, Treasurer Susan Mahoney and board members Jeff Markham, Cindy Laich and Dave Fitzpatrick. Toni Zimmerman serves as librarian.
