George F. Gomez, Jr.
George F. Gomez, Jr. passed away on December 9, 2012 at the age of 64. Born July 14, 1948 in Lansing, he was the son of George Gomez, Sr. and Ruth Fleischer. George loved fishing, was an avid hunter, enjoyed NASCAR races, auto repair, tinkering with tools, spending time with his family and friends. But his heart was his time spent with his grandchildren and his best friend, “Rudy the dog.”
George is survived by his mother, Ruth Gomez of St. Johns, three children, Tim Gomez of Bath, Jamie (Darin) Underhill of Elsie, Curtis Gomez of Lansing, sisters, Bonnie (Leonard) St. John, Mary (Joseph) Halsey, Shawn Davis, brother, Kelly (Brenda) Scheffler, seven grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Gomez, Sr., grandparents, and nephew, Leonard St. John, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday December 15, 2012 with Pastor Mark St. Louis officiating, at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America.
The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
Donal D. Saxton
Donal Saxton, 92, died December 9, 2012 at Ovid Healthcare Center. He was born on July 6, 1920 to Francis D. and Elsie Dell Cook Saxton in Clinton County, MI. on the family farm. Don married Phyllis Louise Huyck on August 29, 1945 in the Congregational Church in Ovid. She died on April 19, 1998. Prior to their marriage Don farmed, hauled milk in the Ovid area, worked for Dow Chemical and Atlas Drop Forge. Together Don and Phyllis operated Good Gulf gas stations in Durand and Ovid before both working at Darling’s Hardware. He then worked at Nemanis Electric for many years in which he installed the first of many bulk milk parlors in the area. Don retired from the Ovid-Elsie School Systems maintenance department in 1985.
He and Phyllis enjoyed traveling to visit their sons and families. He spent countless hours volunteering for the Ovid Historical Society and Ovid Carriage Days. He was an instrumental member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, holding all offices, including Grand Master of the Lodge. His great enjoyment was being able to sail on the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk from Hawaii to California with his sons Jim and George. He also enjoyed reading his Louis L’Amour books, building 3-D crossword puzzles of all shapes and sizes.
Don is survived by his 3 sons, Jim and his wife Diana of Coronado, California, George and his wife Bonnie of Centennial, Colorado and Kenneth Lee and his life partner Robert Tyson of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren, Donnie, Sean and Donielle and a great granddaughter Dawnelle; brothers Clifford and Mike, sisters Florence Bradley, Joyce Dush, Lona Sweet and numerous nieces and nephews survive him.
Graveside services for Donal D. Saxton, 92 of Ovid will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 10A.M. until 1:00 P.M.
The family wishes to thank Joyce Scott for the many years of love and care that she gave Don allowing him to remain in his home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Ovid-Middlebury Area Ambulance Service or Ovid Public Library. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim, George and Kenneth Saxton, Leonard, Douglas and Alan Huyck.
Mary J. Klein
Loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mary J. Klein passed away December 8, 2012 at the age of 90. She was born in Fowler, Michigan on March 16, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Thelen) Koenigsknecht. Mary was a faithful member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, and an active member of the Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. She will be remembered for her cooking, baking, quilting, gardening and her generous heart. She married John J. Klein on May 31, 1949 in Fowler and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2006.
Mary is survived by her children, Rose (Neil) Hafner of Fowler, Fr. John Klein of Lansing, William (Ruth) Klein of Pewamo, Monica (Edward) Martin of Fowler, Mary Klein of Okemos, Thomas (Debra) Klein of Pewamo and Lucy (Bruce) Nurenberg of Portland; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with 1 on his way. She is also survived by her brother, George (Joan) Koenigsknecht and in laws, Peter (Margaret) Klein, Monica (Martin) Pung, Therese Thelen, Doris Klein, Caroline Klein and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James “Jake” Klein, sisters, Julianna (Melvin) Simon and Margaret (Mark) Schrauben and brothers, Msgr. Albert Koenigsknecht and Paul (Patricia) Koenigsknecht.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with Fr. John Klein presiding. Burial will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday 1 – 9 P.M. with a Rosary at 3 P.M. and a Vigil for the Deceased at 8 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. In lieu of flowers, sympathies may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
